Edit - reposting as this accidentally got combined in Richie's thread. It's all good, well except for the loss, lol.
Tough loss tonight after being up 8 early in the 2nd half. I do think the refs completely switched how they called the first 5 minutes of the 2nd half, unnecessarily and it was 9-4 fouls in their favor fairly early, although most of those fouls were fouls (but some touch fouls that they weren't calling earlier - I don't like the inconsistency). However, that's going to happen on the road. Also, the disparity wasn't for the whole game, plus, we got 4 points on a blunder in our favor - Caleb was clearly fouled before the end of the half, but the no-call gave us an easy basket and the T gave us 2 more. They call that foul and we have 4 less points (edit - forgot Caleb missed one - 3 less points). So yeah, things tend to even out.
Very proud of the team to come back from 9 down to 1 up on that amazing 10-0 run, with the kind of defense I think we all thought we'd see more of, but didn't really, although much of that is because Iowa is just a damn good passing team and Garza really had his way with Myles/Carter inside, plus they outrebounded us by 8. The guy is a top 5 player in the country, so it's not like Myles played badly (10/4/4 with 3 steals is not horrible) - just not as good as that guy.
But still, we were in a position to win, but simply got unlucky in not corralling the missed FT when we were up 1 - and right affter that they scored 5 straight to go up 4 near the end. But even then we didn't give up and clawed back and JY, who didn't have his best game simply missed an easy layup to tie in the last minute. Shit happens.
The bottom line is going down to the wire on the road at #19 ain’t bad. Now we need to hold serve the next 2 at home and then win our “road” game against a struggling UM team at MSG. Have to at least go 2-1 in these three though, to get back to 16-6/7-4. I also agree with Also, I agree with what Andy Katz just said: that we should not drop out of the top 25 by losing a one possession game on the road against a very good Iowa team, assuming we then beat NE at home.
Also have to mention Harper - best game since the last time he played here, lol. 29 points on every kind of shot. Breakout game. And Yeboah with 17, but not enough from the bench, which only scored 12, below our average. If Geo was healthy and playing like he can, I think we win this game. Oh well. Next.
