Old people in the band

This isn't trying to be snarky, I'm just genuinely curious ... why do we have people in their 50s in the band? These aren't enrolled students, right? Are they like band instructors or something? It just looks odd when you're watching the band on TV; the group looks like every 5th or 6th person is in their 50s or 60s.

There always was an alumni pep band that made an appearance usually when the students were on break. But I don't know why they were there tonight

Alumni band. I don’t know the details but someone explained it last year. Something like there are 3 bands for basketball and 1 being alumni band. They rotate depending on students break, class schedules and other activities to make sure there is a full band every game. Someone else can explain it better than me. That’s what I remember from the last time this was discussed on this board.

We filled in tonight for the undergrad band as mason gross was having their band concert tonight. Had a blast, it was a great game!
