Phenomenal F Penn State Chants all night. Our hearts were really in it --- they could tell!

In a game like last night, a really great fanbase gets a feel for the team, the flow, momentum, and trajectory of the game and provides the support.

Last night the fans and team were like one entity -- the support ebbed with the game. When the team needed a lift coming back from 10 points down, and they cut it to 8, and then 6, the fanbase was just so encouraging and raucous on those defensive series. It was beautiful.

KUDOS to the fanbase.

Maybe I am a bit of a prude but I am not a fan of the F Penn State chant. A clever fan base should be able to figure out something better then that.

ehh I don’t mind it. I think it’s just the older and nerdier fans that think we’re like an Ivy League school and hate that kind of stuff

I don't think you're necessarily wrong. But the ship has sailed -- it's A THING.

It doesn't even necessarily have the literal meaning that you imagine it does. I think the meaning is more in line with:
"F that guy..." or "F off" and NOT, "hey, man, F you!" or "go F yourself"

The F word is just not what it used to be.

they could say puck fenn State. Then nobody gets offended.

I actually assumed this is what the chant had migrated to...no different than a number of other similar chants across college sports, e.g. Duck Fook, Ruck Futgers, Buck Faylor, etc. The swap and replace F with the other word's first letter thing is pretty commonplace at this point, and perhaps has become rather trite, but still keeps the chant rated PG.

I'm not sure that anyone really gets offended. But whether they chant **** Penn State or Puck Fenn State or Penn State Sucks, the chant is really trite and uninspired. It is more a statement of the lack of imagination of the people chanting it.

Block that Kick, on the other hand, was a pretty funny chant, and a statement to the PSU basketball team that they don't really matter in State College

[in edit, I guess the Rivals editor gets offended, because it put 4 asterisks in place of the 4 letter word I typed]

Totally agree

Funny as I thought I heard "Block that kick" during the opening minutes and thought that was clever only to hear F Penn State later and figured I must of misheard them originally. I agree that Block that Kick is clever for Penn State.

I heard that and I didn’t like it. This is coming from a 29 year old who is only 7-8 years out of college. It was one of those moments for me where I was like “wow I’m really getting older” haha. Was not a fan of it at all. Especially with young kids at the game.

It’s a battle cry for the students ESPECIALLY after the whole thing with Julie apologizing and the marketing staff trying to change it to “Let’s Go Knights” and threatening to stop playing FWTBT on third down. It became an act of rebellion AND passion against a hated rival. Sorry everyone, #FPS

If any school deserves the chant, it's Ped State. I'm more than good with it. School should be banned. If you really looked into all the facts, it was one of the most horendous coverups to allow football to go on while allowing the raping of kids.

I agree and I don't think I'm a prude. I just thinks it low class and there also are a lot of children at these games. Other than that the crowd was great and I went home a little horse.

I’m good with an alternative ... but it’s gotta be something that works on 3rd down

I agree that it's classless and i wouldn't want my boys to hear it if I take them to a game. I used to go to RU soccer games in the late 90s and sit in the front row and heckle relentlessly. I had more than a few players look up and some even say things back. But I never cursed. First, it kept me from being ejected, which the security desperately wanted to do. Secondly, it's just not clever. I always feel like cursing is too easy. It's the low hanging fruit. I want a heckle (or in this case, a chant) that makes people laugh. I'm not trying to encite anger.

It actually makes us classless. And completely indefensible. It doesn't offend me, it embarrasses me. Its terrible and needs to stop.
Couldnt agree more. When Alabama hoops fans mockingly cheered every time LSU crossed the half-court line. now thats good. F Penn State? so classless, no creativity. dumb. Hugely dumb.and embarrasing.

looked on reddit for best fan chants. saw this one which was hilarious.
when the game is sealed.....

fans chant "if your'e winning and you know it, clap your hands,........"
everyone in the arena claps hands
then "if you're losing and you know it, clap your hands.."
opposing fans., total silence.

I think everything about the environment from Tuesday was perfect. Don't change a thing.

"F.... Penn State" is an infantile chant and makes the fans look like a bunch of cretins.
But "Block that kick" is clever.
