Only 3 games in 3 weeks

Very very GOOD

This is when we got our act together last year after the hall loss and work on things in practice now thsr guys are getting back

Theee is no slow down or tine for this after 1-1, so this is a big growth period over the next three weeks

9-3 is the goal heading to Columbus , getting better each game

I think it's good for this team. Get to finish finals (they do still go to class, right?), then a tune-up at home vs Long Island to continue integrating Mag into the rotation; another game at the Rock, where we clearly felt comfortable last night, against a good opponent; and one last non conference tuneup before we hit the B1G schedule hard. Find a way to get to 9-3, please.

I'm guessing Mag has been going "very hard" in practice for a while now. How many people here thought there was NO CHANCE he'd play as much, hard, or well as he did last night, prior to the game? MANY. They were all wrong, which is a good thing for us, so I'm thinking the "rest" is a good thing. I mean not surprising we're going into finals.

I say 10-3 heading into IOWA game. I believe we beat OSU.

I think you’re mistaken if you think practice prep is better than playing a real game against good or equal competition.
Just my opinion!!!
I listened to something recently that the reason we’re seeing more international players [moreso Euro] in the NBA is because in their development systems the emphasis is on practice versus games. Whereas the AAU teams practice a couple times and play four games in a week whereas overseas they practice 4-5 times and have 1-2 games in a week.

Judging by more foreign players taking more NBA first round spots from US players they maybe on to something.

GO RU

The extra prep for Miss St should be an advantage but after a huge emotional rivalry game win with Mag's return the momentum massively shifted. The team seemed to find something and come together. It would be nice to continue to ride the momentum

Let's hope the team is sharp for Miss St. Long layoff and cupcake game the only thing on deck for 2 weeks

Nice boost of confidence that we shot so well from deep at the rock. Light it up again and we will walk away with the W

Which has zero to do with game prep vs being game sharp.

I hate the next two cupcakes on the schedule. The Bryant, Howard and St Peters type teams have been good practice opportunities for us trying to figure things out. It’s good we schedule those.

Playing two teams who are 2-17 on the year 10 games into the season is not helpful.

Football schedule
No - it’s different. Football is a contact sport where injuries run rampant. I have no issue with Schiano making the 3 OOC games as easy as possible.

Pike’s not going to lose to St Peters and Howard types any more often than he picks up a freak loss to terrible Lafayette or Fordham type. The difference is the Howard teams have a couple players with some decent talent to work on some things. We’re going to play LIU and things that would never work the kids will be able to get away with on both sides of the ball. It’s like playing a good high school team. Not productive.

Seems to me that having so long of a delay between games, no matter what the level of competition, does little to prepare the team for the lack of time between games once the league starts. Fatigue is always a factor in any sport and it will most definitely show up sometime along with injuries. Have to think the conditioning factor is not good when the number of games per days increases.

The biggest difference is game speed and effort can’t be simulated, along with nerves and mental state.
Very often when a team looks like they have no legs, chasing the game or seemingly a step behind…. The players are actually trying harder.
When you’re flying around, taking away time and space and winning every 50-50 ball it’s so invigorating it’s effortless.

Yup, it’s an observation from a boomer sure to be opposed by modern analytics and statistics.

Totally agree. Has a chance to put us back to right before we got shellacked by Illinois. Though I do think having Mag back and starting JMike will help us through that.
I think we’re in good shape. We got a win we really needed. I just wish we were prepping for an FDU or Monmouth type team with half a backbone.

A line up with one real guard (Noah / Derek whoever), Chol, Oskar, Wolf, and a walk on the entire game could kill LIU.

Agree. Btw you looked great on tv vs SHU rocking the red sequin suit, wig and holding the tall boy brew. No more drafts for you during your RU appearances!

Allen Iverson would agree with you. 😀

Who knows, the extra rest might be helpful to our 5 guys coming off of season ending injuries. Mag, Ogbole, Jeremiah, Noah, and Austin.

Plus, some have speculated that Cliff is nursing a sore leg.

I wasn't trying to be that deep I just went one game a week on Saturday for three weeks in a row!

Didn’t realize Cliff was nursing injuries again this year?

One of the things I have never understood about college basketball is how you can go from a schedule like this, with a game a week, to the conference tournaments at the end of the season where teams are playing every day. A lot of teams seem to be blown out after these tournaments, heading into March Madness.

I definitely remember him getting dinged up in one of the first couple games at the RAC. Went into the locker room with the trainer. Came back out and eventually went back into the game, but prior to that there were already folks speculating how many games he might miss.

One thing I have to say about @Scangg, despite all the regalia, he always looks very distinguished on TV. Sort of like the Dos Equis guy only with a red wig and sequine jacket. BTW - do you need to dry clean that stuff? I’m guessing you can’t wash it at home.

I think they should abolish classes, exams, the holidays and the break between semesters so the team can play an NBA type schedule.

Just about every college team has the same or similar schedule in mid to late December, 3 or 4 games over 3 weeks. It's not like this year is different.

My initial question was simply whether it was good or bad playing only 1 game a week…the question could apply to every opponent and every situation is different.
In our case as a coach, the momentum from Seton Hall may have been beneficial to play again sooner… but it is what it is this time of year.
And you are correct regarding most other universities playing only 3 games in the same span.
Our next B1G Opponent OSU plays 3 games in the same span against better competition,
You can argue playing better opponents is beneficial and helpful for B1G prep

There are a lot of things to accomplish over these next 3 games and practice. Davis is a true freshmen and has been thrust into the new starting PG role. Simpson needs to get comfortable with his new role. We also need Noah to get comfortable playing more off ball and work on freeing himself for shots.

Didn't even get into Wolf, Griffiths, Williams, Palmquist.....roles need defined.

The practice time and next game before a tough Miss State opponent is very important.

Also, I think this could be a year where 10 could be in the rotation without a huge drop. Not saying it will happen but 10 have proven they can contribute.
