Only good portal pickup was Dercack

NO Absolutely NOT. Derkack is mid at best. TOO SLOW to defend. Doesn’t box out. Makes too many poor decisions to drive into double/triple teams in the paint. MAAC competition is no where near the speed of the B1G. Derkack should NOT be starting.

I don’t disagree with you, but think about this…..Derkack has been the best of the four transfers, I don’t even think that’s much of a debate. So what does that say overall about all of the transfers as a collective group? It’s not good. It appears we picked up a bunch of duds and no studs, also they didn’t get another big man so this roster is not looking too strong at the moment. If the four transfers are going to provide this level of contribution as they have thus far, it’s going to be tough to win games in conference. Hell, the Seton Hall game could be a dog fight and they suck this year.

Full court press the whole game to cut down possession time of the other team. DH needs to run the offense, not JWill or Derkack. Off ball movement and back door cuts need to improve.

It can’t just be 1 guy trying to get the rebound and 3 or 4 guys looking to be the outlet. That crap ain’t working.

Yes, let’s tire out Harper and Bailey even more.

Any strategy that has DH and AB busting their asses on D is completely counter productive. Defense needs to come from other guys, but they simply aren’t athletic enough.

I like your idea of a press. The fear I have is that these guys won’t execute it very well. We may have to face the reality that this group just can’t play defense, no matter what style you use, full court press, 3/4 court press, man-to-man, different types of zones, it just may not matter. These guys need to prove they can play defense on the court, until that happens my premise is this team can not play defense, of any sort, variety, style, etc..

If we pressed, we would get absolutely destroyed. Most of the players are not close to being quick enough or smart enough and we’d be in foul trouble immediately and give up tons of layups. Also, Ace and Dylan, who must play most for the game, would be exhausted by halftime. That’s part of the reason they don’t bother to play D, IMO. Most teams break weak presses in their sleep. Also, like a zone, you must practice the crap out of it, which we don’t have the luxury of doing, with everything else that’s wrong. You also need a deep bench like the old Arkansas and Louisville teams had. We not only don’t have a bench, we are lacking starters.

We can do it in spurts as a change of pace. but it’s certainly not sustainable.
