So, the signing period starts tomorrow, April 11th. Who among you are optimistic that by the end of this week we have two or three quality players, several of whom have been discussed on this board, signed for next year and who among you think this is Rutgers, lowly Rutgers, and we will be in scramble mode next week because all of these guys signed elsewhere? I am choosing to have faith in this staff and am optimistic.

I think the staff signs McConnell based on tweets, need for position, opportunity to be a Rutgers student. If they miss, well they will have to get another. I really think he can be a game changer here for four years.

Hope you are right. Question? If they do sign him will that attract other possible signees or not.

Potentially. He is a very creative pg that will help others get the ball. Players want to see the pg does not have Cinnabon hands.

Asside from McConnell im uncertain what we could pick up at this time worth the Scholly.

I hope im wrong.

McConnell is only visiting this weekend so I don't think he could sign until next week. I will be surprised if we sign anyone this week.

So, you are neither optimistic or pessimistic. You are a realist. Probably the right call.
Accurate on how i try and perceive things but occasional can seem like the pessimist. At least im having fun with the bball team now, winning would be a nice kicker, but fun is a good start.

A easy prediction is that Rutgers won't attract a recruit as talented as Sanders.A player similar to Williams talent wise is what I'm expecting. The key is to not waste scholarships on recruits who lack the talent to play right away in the B1G.

The spring signing period runs from April 11th through May 16th....gives a perspective on how far a range we are looking at...almost a month plus to make moves.

I wonder how a player like McConnel is still available.

It seems like he is waiting for a big offer, and BINGO.

Limited offers for a kid in the middle of Big Ten country but you can say that about a bunch of kids who have succeeded.

I thought he was a Florida kid? I figured it was similar to Football where there's just so many good athletes down there that sometimes a 3* turns out to be a gem...

No idea.

I need your opinion here. How does the early signing period effect this. My gut says that mschool haves have already tied up most of their ships so it would seem that there would be pressure on a recruit to sign early on so as not to lose a chance at a scholarship. Before the early signing went into effect I could see the process running out through the 5 weeks but now, with so many spots already taken, this could be a "he who hesitates is lost" kind of deal. The same holds true for the schools, how long can they risk holding out for the kid they really want when a kid they recruited but is a little down on their list is willing to sign.

Whether we sign any of our current targets or not, I am of the opinion that there are very few quality players available in the Spring. Coaches need to make hay in the Fall recruiting period. The Spring is when programs reach and scramble for what's left to fill gaping roster holes. Guess that answers the optimistic/pessimistic question for me.

Let's look at last year.....it was the summer, well past the signing period and there were the Doucoure would or would not reclassify to enter school this past Fall...We entered then with a spot open while other potential names were out there for grad transfers even at that late stage.

Let's go back to the 1st summer Pike arrived....we had tons of spots available and found Eugene and CJ Gettys in August of 2016....I think both players fit into a rebuilding program....one took the leadership mantle and ran with it.....(Gettys).....another one had a very uneven Freshman season (Eugene) and a better sophomore season, marked by improvement and a tough injury that he gutted out and got back on the court with.....Not saying he's the most talented player, but taking 30+ charges and possibly being a team captain/leader is something to consider.

I would not rush into filling all these spots by the end of the spring signing period.....there is no "deadline" at all.....the signing period is just a binding agreement with the player and school....

RU can go into next year with 11 or 12 players (assuming 1 grad and 1 McConnell), IF it meant we were doing very well with some key 2019 recruits that would be true difference makers (Mathis/Baker level or better players)......Maybe it's a sit out freshman transfer that hits the market in May, after school semesters finish up.

I don't think it's a situation where you rush into this....we got bailed out with the Souf and Bullock situations and having those spots freed up.......I think you go grad transfer in front-court 1st, sit out transfer 2nd at any position...and potentially 2019 verbal that can reclassify and arrive in late summer of 2018....

Is optimistic Rutgers fan an oxymoron?
