"The Marcus Mariota Sports Performance Center inside the remodeled Casanova Center is now open. Construction of the $19.2 million, 30,000 square feet facility was paid for by a gift from Nike co-founder Phil Knight and his wife Penny.

"According to Oregon, the MMSPC — named for the program’s Heisman Trophy winner — combines sports performance, sports science, sports medicine and technology in one space. The project also allowed for a new equipment room and trophy lobby.

"The football program has been headquartered in the $68 million Hatfield-Dowlin Complex since 2013, and Oregon players can study and be tutored in the $41 million Jaqua Center."

So can a kid tell the difference between really, really, reall, really great facilities and just really, really, really great facilities?

At some point, with so many great facilities out there, I hope some pick a school because it has a kick ass academic program in their field...oh and good football to boot![winking]

With all those rich Microsofties in Seattle, do you guys have a guardian angel donor for this type of stuff?
Nothing like Uncle Phil. He's filthy rich and he doesn't have a problem sinking gazillions into Oregon sports. Overall Washington has bigger donors than Oregon on average if Uncle Phil was taken out of the picture.

There are some recruits that will do as you say. I remember interviewing at some prestigious law firms in NYC, where the lobbies and hallways were fancy marble and paneled wood. I thought to myself as I walked in, man, this must be a nice place to work. At one interview at such a place, after meeting one or two of the partners, one who was a raging a-hole, I thought differently.

To a young person all of that fancy stuff can be intoxicating. But at the end of the day, it is PEOPLE--your coaches and your fellow players that matter the most. Granted, there should be a base level of facilities in terms of a weight room, stadium and practice facility, but some of the stuff happening now with facilities is over the top--there is a wow factor, but it will have little impact on player and personal development.
