OT: 2023 Transfer Portal Activity (non-RU related)

If I were looking for an experienced QB for Rutgers I would go after Drew Pyne from ASU. He had an injury this year and barely played.

Played for us at ND for 4 and left as a Grad Transfer when Hartman came in.

Took over at QB for us in 2022 after an injury and did a really great job. He is kind of a game manager but very solid.

We were 0-2 when he took over and we finished 9-4 with 3 wins over Top 20 teams including a great win over # 4 Clemson.

A Ct kid----great locker room guy---smart player who would make Wimsatt better IMO.

Wisconsin has two transfer from last year. Nick Evers, RS fR from Oklahoma, and Braedyn Locke, RS Fr from Mississippi State. Now they want their third transfer QB.

Minnesota is now after their second QB from Fresno State, Logan Fife after getting their main Qb transfer, Max Brosmer, from Maine, the one that Rutgers would die for.

We can’t afford one QB transfer but they can afford two or three QB. I don’t think every QB is getting a NIL.

I don't know the specifics of any one transfer but I've said it here many times not every player transferring is doing it for only NIL or any NIL at all. Fit, playing time, starting time all figure into the equation. You can run the spectrum from only looking for NIL to only looking for playing time opportunity and everything in between. Every situation is different.

Did 5 star DJU transfer from Clemson to Oregon State last year because he was going to get a big NIL deal? I'd be surprised if that was the case. But he fit with Jonathan Smith and now he's been "rehabilitated" so to speak. This year he's transferring again after Smith went to MSU, so yea this time NIL might figure into it more. Even with the same player you might not get the same motivation from one time to another.

That what I‘ve been saying, we have a starting QB opening in the Big Ten available and no one want it? If we don’t get one then Schiano didn’t try to get a QB. If Schiano is not willing to accept reality, then no extension and termination after 3-4 years.

How much of a factor do you think academic opportunities or requirements are in the decision making process? All these kids do not have NFL potential. Yet I think the assumption is the school will provide enough support to keep them eligible. This is just not sustainable.

How is the Westfield NJ QB Steve Angeli doing in South Bend? Perhaps if he’s close to getting his Notre Dame degree … might consider getting on the field at Rutgers?

He didn’t throw a pass last year and threw 25 passes this year as clean up QB. It appears that ND is going the QB Portal route just like last year. He probably just wants a ND degree and is not concerned about not playing football.
