Sportsmediawatch hasn't put out those easy to read green tables yet (don't know if they will this year) but the article mentions some of the ratings for BTN/FS1 etc... Didn't see the RU/Howard game mentioned. Good opening week for Disney.

Edit: they posted it later than usual but those tables are available again

Rutgers was up against Deion and Colorado which is probably all they cared about on Thursday.

After ABC/ESPN had ratings wins last week for each game of their triple header, I’m thinking they will be fortunate if they can pull out a win in just the nighttime window this week.

Edit might not have it all season but anyhow while it’s here.

Does anyone else think Rutgers' and Maryland's viewing numbers kind of shoot a hole in the "we bring the NYC and DC markets?"

FFS, FIU/Indiana brought more viewers, Illinois State/Iowa doubled our numbers and FAU/Michigan State nearly tripled our numbers.

Not really. Look at what MD - UCONN was up against on Saturday at noon. And Rutgers was a Thursday night during baseball season. Besides, I doubt UCONN and Howard brought many eyeballs. Are there any college teams people in Connecticut care about other than UCONN hoops, men and women?

MSU game was on Friday. The other games were combined figure I think of two games that’s why listed as regional matchups.

The window you’re in, the channel you’re on and the competition in that same window makes a difference. Even PSU’s game lost viewers because of the long weather delay. Nebraska being pushed to FS2 temporarily probably affected that too. So a bunch of variables can affect it.

I'll update every once or twice before the end of the season for a final one... since people will be able to see week on week and compare. but figured i would show... hopefully better numbers this year.

It was a Thursday night and a MEAC team. Most people never heard of Howard.
The numbers were not bad at all considering.

It was never about viewers. It was about subscribers. NYC and Baltimore markets brought in all those millions of subscribers for BTN. That’s what matters

If “it” is negotiations over how much networks are willing to pay to broadcast games, then I would think both subscribers and viewers are important.

I would like to know how many NY/NJ people were part of almost 5 million watching Colorado and North Dakota.
^^^this^^^ You cannot compare regional broadcasts to national broadcasts. You cannot compare broadcast network games (even if delivered via cable) to cable-channel-only games. You cannot compare streaming-only games to anything else either.

Well.. you CAN do the above.. but it means nothing. The reason is total market available is different. Then you can add in the marketing of games by the networks that will broadcast them. How much time is spend on the various pre-game shows to market Akron at Rutgers vs.. well. anything else? Rutgers doesn't even have any network-owned local channels in New Jersey to push attention for a game up to network corporate.. you know, to get the local sports reporters exposure and help their careers they would try this.

We do fine in our market, In terms of delivering the NYC-Philly markets... we already did that by cable household payments for BTN that is split between Fox and Big Ten. Same for Maryland.

Of course. Both are important. But to question if Rutgers really brings nyc market? Of course it does. It’s bringing the millions of subscribers..which was all big ten wanted from Rutgers. When Rutgers gets better..they’ll bring the viewers

So we have Nebraska Illinois as a direct comp. Lets at least be in the neighborhood of that rating.
Both were ranked teams....

Week 3 : #14 Arizona - #20 KState @2.58M - Friday FOX
Week 4 : #24 Illinois - #22 Nebraska @4.21M - Friday FOX

My Guess 3.52M
As long as we do higher than AZ KS, i think its a win....considering they were top 20 ranked teams

Going to be tough and but won’t be disappointing.

Nebraska Illinois was 2 top 25 team going head to head.

Rutgers-Washington is 2 unranked teams. Think that may affect it. Also, A top 10 team playing on ESPN at 7:30 Friday will take a chunk of our viewers away.

ESPN had UNLV - Kansas 1.32M

Week 4 : #24 Illinois - #22 Nebraska @4.21M - Friday FOX
ESPN had Syracuse - Stanford 1.37M

Week 5 : Washington - Rutgers @4.21M - Friday FOX
ESPN has Virginia Tech - Miami

Does FOX > ESPN for the 3rd straight week.....
My 3.52M might be too high. ESPN finally has a viable alternate game to FOX's game.
I'll stick with it, but it might be under 3M considering no Nebraska and both teams not ranked.

Anything over 3m would be great, imo

Ohio State could play an intra-squad flag football game in a parking lot and a couple million people would still watch. They're a machine.
Every game of a Top 5 team draws viewers from competing ranked teams.. even when they play a "scrimmage".

No.

I think RU v. Wash on FS1 brings in 1.5-2MM.

If game were on Fox national, ratings would be 2.5-3MM easy.

GO RU

Game is on Fox broadcast. It should be a big draw. Oddly, our biggest "competition" may come from Hurricane Helene TV coverage.
