OT: 2024 CFB TV ratings

Deleted the last week 11 table from sportsmediawatch. Looks like they've updated it now and also includes Michigan/Indiana numbers which was still missing from the other source.

So tOSU’s non-competitive blowout of PU had a higher viewership than Miami’s very competitive game where they picked up their first loss.

Cable/network can account for some numbers, but result seems crazy to me.

That’s why Fox often picks OSU. They have solid to very good ratings regardless of who they play. They’re like 1 or 2 overall in drawing numbers.

Miami doesn't actually generate eyeballs in fact, their numbers were behind Minnesota's last year. Quite literally, the entire state of Ohio is tuned into OSU games.

Miami's numbers will be better this year with their record and hype but not by as much as you think

It wasn’t necessarily Miami specific, they just happened to be the team playing. There are 49 other states, with not all of them having a local team’s game going on.

As for someone in Ohio, the game ended 45-0. If you are at the game, sure stick it out to the end. But, watching on TV? I’d be hitting record at some point and looking for a competitive game.

Although, the whole idea of a November unbeaten team going down is a lot different starting this year, so maybe the care about seeing a team lose isn’t there. The BYU game got higher numbers than I would imagine than if they had say 1 or 2 losses.

Correct...

And the SECN and ACCN are not tracked because they do not pay Nielsen to track the number of viewers.

Not sure why.

And I guess BTN does...

not knowing what the RU/VT numbers are but with all the rest of our games, we are averaging just over 1mm which is very good and tracking higher than last year thus far

bear in mind, that is without playing OSU, PSU, Mich.

outstanding

I feel dirty for liking the Mandel posts. He can go take a flying f*ck at a rolling donut AFAIC.

However, he’s right that the playoff has increased interest in the regular season. I hope the committee gets to a point where the teams are rewarded for playing harder schedules.

With that I suggest a few tweaks.

Conferences should create schedules where teams play against other teams that finished with similar records from the prior year. For example, have the teams that finish 1-4 in the season each play two games against one another the following season.

I also think that teams ranked 1-4 in a conference play on championship week. Two teams in 16 to 18 team conferences is not enough.

I suggest that the teams ranked 3-4 play inter-conference games during championship week.
