OT: 2025 NY Giants Off Season Thread

Season 3 Episode 23 GIF by The Simpsons

Schoen playing the big, ugly boss over a 1 year, 3 mill player.
I don't care but did he do that with Golladay?

The ugly details behind Giants’ surprising Nick McCloud cut: ‘I am not f—king around’
Is this true or is it from his agent? I remember when they traded Leonard Williams. Williams was praising Schoen and how he handled it. He asked him if the trade would be ok with him instead of just trading him.

Golladay was Gettleman's signing. I think Schoen ended up cutting him loose during or after 2022. When teams continue to lose the way the Giants have - everyone piles on. When teams win - none of this stuff matters.

SI piece says NYG players confirming Schoen told player not to pay his rent.
ITs been my impression Schoen got rid of Saquon because he was peeved about the negative media he was getting, The trade had a "taking things personal" vibe to it .

Golladay was released March 2023 and was considered one of worst pick-ups in NFL (21.1 mil cap hit in 2022). I think he had the yips because he would drop easy balls hitting him in the hands

As of now this is who I want at 3 if available. He is better then both QB's IMO. Teams that draft for need are in the position that we are in right now. Remember the great Giants D lines of years past. You could never have to many pass rushers.

Seems to go along with what some other draft analysts say. Not a top 10 pick at all, more of a end of first early second round pick. He breaks down the film pretty good in this video

Would you people sign Justin Fields or trade for JJ McCarthy?
Fields as a bridge QB maybe. I’d rather have a more seasoned vet if they are gonna be working with a young QB if we draft one. As for McCarthy it depends on his knee health and what the Vikes want. I definitely wouldn’t give up a first for him

We don't even know if McCarthy is a good NFL QB yet so I'm not trading significant assets for him.

Sounds like JJM is not the hit trade that some made out to be because of the injury. Fair enough.

I get a kick out of the rumors I see in my feeds about the Giants needing to trade their #3 overall plus other assets to trade for McCarthy. I think it all started from Mel Kiper. Had to laugh since the Giants already passed on him last season at #6 (if they loved him they would have drafted him). If they do give up that much for him, fire them on the spot.

Beyond Fields, there may be some other bridge type options:

Vets - Andy Dalton or Mariota might be able to hold down the fort for a year or 2

Other younger Guys with potential upside - Hooker, Willis, Ratler, Milton might come much cheaper and be low risk options with potential upsides or to fill a backup role - all these guys are better than anyone currently in the Giants QB Room.

Coming off an ACL year? Yeah, if the give up that much fire them on the spot.

It’s now obvious Mara doesn’t watch games that don’t involve the Giants .
Every damn minute there is a graphic about what a GIANT mistake it was to not bring back Barkley.

if he did there’s no way anyone with a clue would keep this group of morons together.

FYI , just watching the giants the last 2 years should’ve been enough to burn this b-tch down

Media people cite the Giant's drafting success aside from the OL flops.
There are also the pick-ups like Okereke
They've got some good people in the draft but when you suck every year you will get better drafts as a matter of course I assume

I think they are only complimenting last year's draft and not the previous ones. Anyway, something is not quite adding up because if they were drafting so great each year, you'd be improving not trending downward.

Crippled OL and scrubby QBs
I'm seeing a lot more talk about Giants taking SU QB McCord.
I don't trust anything this time of year but McCord has been undervalued imo

Mara needs to fire dumbbell and that complete moron
GM. If you dont watch this game and fire your GM you are a F-in joke , not of an owner , but a joke a of a human being with no clue

I don't know who that is but it makes no sense considering Shedeur is among top 4 passers and had highest completion rate (74%). He had no run game or OL - tons of pressure and sacks (and dirty hits). I think a lot of people in media just hate Sanders. I recall Jets had a scout knocking Sanders and Jets are hideous for QBs

Give this one a read. Out of most of the QB's in this years draft he had the most time to throw. He is not a good processor. A bunch of his sacks are his fault and not his O lines. He took one for -28 yards vs BYU. Jim Nagy who runs the Senior Bowl and is a highly respected talent evaluator in the NFL said these QB's would possibly be QB7 last year. Picking one at 3 is too high for me with one of Carter, Graham or Hunter being available.

This part here:

"I am warning teams not to dismiss Sanders sack totals by accepting the popular narrative that makes the offensive line the scapegoat and to ask themselves “What’s really taking so long for Sanders to get the ball out of his hand?”

Author never mentions that Colorado was 134th in nation for rushing - dead last.
The offensive line WAS bad and not bad because of Shedeur.
I also dont see mention of Shedeur being committed to being a pocket passer.

The NFL is full of shoot or scoot QBs (a trend made worse by declining OL skills and DLs off the hook).
Shedure will stay in place looking for a completion instead of running over the LOS.
Unfortunately that lack of a run game let pass defenders (LBs as well as DB) ignore the run.
DL could also focus on rush rush rush because there was no run run run

Football is a Rubic's cube - when the greens and blues move what happens to the reds and whites?
Looking at OL just via pass game and not run game is judging the pizza by the dough and not the cheese/sauce
I'm hungry now

unbelievable that Joe schoen is still the GM.
The news kept reporting that Mara did not want to continue the decade-long history of hiring and then quickly firing successive coaching/GM regimes. Here’s the big problem with that thinking: it’s the hirings, not the firings.

That’s what he needs to fix.

(P.s., and what’s his nephew still doing in the personnel department? Ten years in this personnel department is a horrible resume. It should be a jet pack to the unemployment line.)
