OT: 2025 NY Giants Off Season Thread

The news kept reporting that Mara did not want to continue the decade-long history of hiring and then quickly firing successive coaching/GM regimes. Here’s the big problem with that thinking: it’s the hirings, not the firings.

That’s what he needs to fix.

(P.s., and what’s his nephew still doing in the personnel department? Ten years in this personnel department is a horrible resume. It should be a jet pack to the unemployment line.)
And his brother. Unfortunately the nephew is being groomed to take over for John.

I believe one of them left the draft early a few years ago to go watch there horse race. I don’t think he will ever get rid of family members though

Yeah Chris Mara did. Your DEI sig describes the family members running rampant through nepotism in the FO.

HOF members picked.
No Eli but a GB WR who only played for 7 years (and with Brett Favre)

"Tight end Antonio Gates, cornerback Eric Allen, defensive end Jared Allen and wide receiver Sterling Sharpe are the newest members of the Pro Football Hall of Fame

Indianapolis Colts and New England Patriots kicker Adam Vinatieri, Carolina Panthers linebacker Luke Kuechly, New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning, all in their first year of eligibility, were not selected."

Kuecy may not have had enough years but guy was special.

Shannon Sharp's induction speach years ago always moved me. Happy for Sterling.

I remember when I believe it was Mariano Rivera in baseball had someone vote against him getting into the HOF. That person should’ve never been able to vote again.
The pro bowl means nothing anymore in football yet that’s always listed for a potential HOF candidate. I think Eli should’ve got in over Sharpe. The voting process needs to be reviewed

No. Rivera was the first player ever unanimously elected. So think about that, in particular all the previous, better players who were not unanimously elected. It was just silly for decades.

The problem could be solved if the voting was not anonymous.

Every legendary player was not unanimous. Every. Babe Ruth ? Silly

Yes. Even Babe Ruth. There were voters who refused to vote for anyone in their first year of eligibility.

With the Giants OL is would be an Aaron Rogers repeat. Look at what it did to the Jets.
You'd think the Giants organization would have recognized that the O-line is a serious liability and in need of a major upgrade.

The bigger concern is that they have recognized it (for a number of years) and seem incapable of fixing it.
They've been drafting size/strength first and mobility/agility second.
Flowers was 6' 6" 330 with 37 reps of 225.
NFL defenders would run right passed him.
They say 40 times doesn't matter for NFL and Flowers was a 5.31

However a lot of the better OL can run well and dance.
All Pro Wirfs was almost the same size as Flowers but ran 4.85 with bigger broad jumps and vertical jumps.
Wirfs was an athlete who could do flips

All pro Lane Johnson (Philly) runs 4.72 40 at 6' 6" 303
Both Wirfs and Johnson benched mid 20s.
Legs and foot speed are key in football and Wirfs and Johnson excel there while Flowers was more a slow powerlifter.
Evan Neal and Hernandez are two more big guys defenders run around.

I like OL with good legs more than being able to bench 500 lbs but cant move.
Big-n-strong vs big-n-quick - NYGs like the former and that's not working with todays DEs who are freaks

I would prefer a young, talented QB in draft because he's "cheaper" for awhile compared to paying a mountain of cash to a 37 yrs old, 16 yr veteran. He threw to Calvin Johnson for 7 years - that's how long he's been around.
Giants have a ridiculous schedule and a brutal home sched.
3 so-called Easier games are all on the road
Pats Saints Raiders

Eagles wash Dallas chargers packers chiefs Vikings 49ers at home.

ARCH MANNING 2026 !!!

I think I'd be fine with either of these (a slight restriction on the Stafford thing):

  • Ward/Sanderd arent available and/or not enticing. Sign a journeyman QB for 1 year and tank the year for 2026 QB class
  • Stafford for 2 years and draft a QB in the 2nd/3rd round. Hope this QB gets time to develop and learn under Stafford. Ready to take over in 2026.
Caveat: Can't expect Stafford to be even a medium term answer. 2 years max - ideally out after 1 year.

I have no faith in Schoen getting the right QB or getting enough of the right anything. It would be just like Schoen to give up assets and big bucks for Stafford just as the smarter Rams are deciding his time is running out for a big contract. On the other hand, Schoen said nothing of substance about Stafford and the nj.com writer was just looking for something to write about.
