OT: 2025 NY Giants Off Season Thread

The Stafford buzz is growing. Schoen and Daboll must be worried that a 3-5 win season will result in their firing so drafting a questionable QB with the #3 pick and then get crushed by the 2025 schedule might not be their preferred path.

I'm just tired of sh!tty football for the last 8 years so going with Stafford as a stopgap is a welcome and worthwhile swing to take.

That being said, Stafford is getting old and there are only 2 players in recent US sports history that were able to play at consistent "playoff level" as they approach age 40. That's Lebron and Tom Brady. Stafford is 37 right now. Sean Mcvay and Les Sneed are one of the smartest HC & GM combos in the NFL. It worries me that they are ready to move on from Stafford.

Buzz growing in February means only, at best, that the vast world of the internet and blogosphere are yammering about it. I give this supposed "buzz" no credence. More generally, though, I have no reason to believe that Schoen will do anything but mostly make bad decisions, and he has a host of bad options in front of him (as do all GMs all the time). If history is any guide, there's a good chance he'll pick one of those.

After losing out on Stafford, rumors are that the Giants are interested in friggin Aaron Rodgers.
As much as I'd love to see him get pummeled due to the Giants porous O-line, I can't root for any team he's quarterbacking. After 60 years I may have to stop rooting for the G-men.

I don't believe anything this time of year.
Players use teams to get their dollars up from other teams.
Teams run feints on draft picks and agents lay narratives.

I'd take this in a heartbeat. Giants would be stupid to not consider it.

It's a shame the Jets didn't have those stats on Rodgers last season when they decided to part ways with him.
What were they thinking ?
Are the stats wrong? Fact is he would be the best QB the Giants had since Manning.

If you take his numbers from last season with the Jets and assume similar numbers with the Giants in 2025...when he is one year deeper into his forties...then I guess you would be hoping the Giants sign him. And wondering why the Jets gave up on him. Although i suggest you take a look at his numbers with Gang Green in 2023.
Regardless of his numbers, the guy is an ass and I could never root for a team that he is quarterbacking.

I still think he could put up similar numbers. There are players that have done much much worse then him, Ray Rice is one of them.

It’s not an argument it’s a fact. The guy is a little strange but a good football player.
Really ? It's a good argument on someone's behalf to say that others have done worse ?
I don't think so.

So what did he do that's so bad? Please explain, I don't think he has ever been involved with the law.

The guy is more than a little strange, and, he USED to be a good football player.
He used to be a great MVP football player. Now he is a good one. Yeah the whole dark room thing I find very odd, but I can live with that kinda stuff. Out of all the potential vet QB's he is the best IMO.

I feel that those in charge of the Giants have some inflated view of how good they actually are. They were willing to spend close to 50 million in a contract with Matt Stafford? For what purpose? The rest of the team needs a ton of work and it's going to need multiple drafts to do it. They should just go after a one year veteran that's cheap, draft a QB (or not if they don't like them), then boot next season which has a much harder schedule and build through the draft.

The fans are just gonna have to be patient with this one.

Well I guess that’s true. The overall point is why throw good money away when a full rebuild is needed?

This is NFL in 2025 - a bunch of bad teams who cant block, grasping at rusty, old greats who are mostly over the hill and an injury away from wasting 50-60 mil.

The one thing that the Eagles have that the Giants don't is a great GM. That said, this move doesn't seem so brilliant. Schoen had the right notion, but it was just three years early. On top of that, he only needed to commit to Barkley for one year and still didn't get it. But Roseman is adding two more years to the two that Barkley still has remaining, and that certainly could come back to bite him in the ass.

I think football stats aside, Saquon was the leader of the NYGs and the most popular with fans and owner. When the owner lets you know he really wants to keep a player then his Smith & Wesson beats the GMs 4 aces. Saquon was never a bad player when healthy. The NYGs suck for a lot of players because of the poor drafts and OL's ineptitude. I think Schoen was resentful of Saquon for the negative media and just wanted to get rid of him. He could have made an offer SB could have lived with but was happy to see him leave

As soon as Saquon pulls up limping, which he’s done a lot, or a couple of years have passed, we’ll see how this somewhat gratuitous extension looks.

There's risk in the final year, but how many times did he pull up lame this past year running behind the Eagle's OL?

The Giants need to draft a QB give Aaron a one year contract to be a bridge to next year and try to win this year
Trade the #3 pick to New Orleans for their #9 pick this year and next year's #1 along with a 2 round draft choice this year ,then strengthen the OL with that #9 from NO and take Will Howard with a second round pick if he's available. If not take a shot in the 3rd round on Memphis QB Seth Henigan or the old man of QBs being drafted 26 year old Tyler Shough of Louisville who might be available to take in the 4th round .
Canadian Taylor Elgersma would be a good gamble with their 7th round pick .

Shedeur Sanders seems like a logical choice at #3 but he might not be ready to be an NFL starter right away and if Rodgers is #1 Sanders might not like being #2 and have Deion making noise about it splinting the locker-room between Rodger supporters and those who feel its Shedeur's time, espicaly if the Giants O is sputtering under Aaron

Sanders should not be drafted in the top 10. Talkin Giants just broke down his film and it was bad. Dane Brugler has his ranked in the 20’s and Sy from Ourlads has in in the 40’s. This is a bad year for QB’s with only one seeming like a top 10 pick. Reports from the combine is Sanders came across arrogant and cocky during his interviews. I hope the Giants keep him far away from the team.

I do like the idea of trading back if that’s possible.

The Saints are stuck with Carr and might think Sanders will be better/
I was also thinking how Seattle could use a QB but trading down to #18 might be too far unless DK was part of the deal along with a second round this year and their first round pick in 2026

People tend to forget that (a) he didn't play for two years, and (b) he was coming back from a serious, serious injury. His numbers were substantially better the second half of the year, oh, and he had the worst coaching staff of all time in NYJ. He can still play at a pro-bowl level even if he's a year older (provided he stays within system framework).

If you just don't like the guy, that's fair too.

2023 was the only year Rodgers didn't play .
But played well. considering his age and being out of service in 2023 , for a bad Jet team in 2024.
Aaron would be a good pick up as a bridge to the 2026 season when the QB drafted in 2025
would be expected to start with a journeyman QB backing him up.
Rodgers would be a great one year signee for the Giants , but anything over that would be a gamble because of his age

On the one hand his personality makes it impossible for me to root for my Giants if that ass is their quarterback.
On the other hand, if they do sign him it would be great fun watching him getting rag-dolled by opponents pass rush through the Giants pathetic O-line....until he goes on the injured list, that is.

Joe Schoen. Jeez. It seems that the next thing in his arsenal after doing dumb things is doing nothing. No worries, though. He’ll get back to dumb things fairly quickly.

And what would have happened to Allen behind the Giant's OL?

With Allen he can still run very well for a big QB
12 rushing TDs this year and 15 last year.
He knows how to take a hit too and there is an art to that.
Eli could do it and RG3 was worst I ever saw at it
Aside from a handful of teams (like Philly) the whole league is sketchy at blocking for different reasons
