OT: Compact SUV recommendations?

I drove the Kia Sportage today - drove OK, but the interior quality did not match the price quoted.

They are surprisingly expensive. I just ran a quick configuration on a Sportage with the turbo motor, AWD and a host of options and it came in at nearly $40k. That's insane.

After it's all said and done - it was down to the Mazda CX5 and the Hyundai Santa Fe Sport / Grand Touring.

The Hyundai was a little bigger than I wanted but overall I liked it, liked the engine, interior features. The problem: price. I can't just pick leather seats and moon roof without adding thousands and thousands of dollars of premium package stuff that i did not want. Brought up the MSRP another $3500. Nuts.

The Mazda CX5 has nearly everything I want, and I don't have to pay for a bunch of crap features I don't. This is the car I'll be getting tomorrow, after a final test drive.

Only question remaining: lease of finance?

and: silver or red?

Only young chicks buy red cars. Is this for your daughter ?

Not sure precisely what OP is looking for but my wife's Sorento was about 25k, came with a 2.4L engine. Not sure if it's "compact" or midsize but she's been driving it for 2 years and loves it

Neither one has sufficient power except for people to whom power and performance doesn't matter. Also, Honda's infotainment systems are a full generation behind the market leaders.

If you're heart is set on something in this category then my recommendation would be Cherokee (with the V6) or Escape (with the 2.0 turbo) and nothing else.
RU4Real, would you contact me at adziemian@aol.com? Thanks
