Just noticed this on Scarletknights.com. Thats a lot of hardware he raked in this past weekend! Congratulations to Izaiah and coaches Mulqueen and my former RU teammate Lou Tomlinson!!

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Freshman Izaiah Brown (Amsterdam, N.Y.) was named Big Ten Track Athlete of the Year, Freshman of the Year, and Track Athlete of the Championships, the conference announced Tuesday.

Brown earned recognition after securing a first-place finish in the 400m, two school records and First Team All-Big Ten honors during the 2016 Big Ten Indoor Track and Field Championships in Geneva, Ohio last weekend.

“It’s well deserved,” said head coach Mike Mulqueen. “It shows the great results of both Izaiah and sprint coach Lou Tomlinson’s hard work.”

The Big Ten award is the first such designation for an athlete in program history, and is the first conference athlete of the year recognition for a Scarlet Knight since Corey Crawford (Oakland, N.J.) was named the American Athletic Conference Most Outstanding Male Field Athlete during the 2014 indoor season.

Brown captured the Big Ten indoor title in the 400m with a time of 45.62, currently the third-fastest collegiate time in the country and the fastest by a freshman this season. Brown’s mark is also a school record, which he previously set on Jan. 9 during the Rutgers Invitational with a time of 46.61.

Serving as the anchor of the 4x400m relay team, Brown helped RU secure a school record in the event with a final time of 3:09.83. The time bested the previous school standard of 3:10.14 recorded at the IC4A Championships in 2010.

Named Big Ten Co-Track Athlete of the Week on Jan. 13, Brown has been one of the top performers in the Big Ten all season long. In addition to his top conference time in the 400m, Brown also possesses the eighth-fastest 200m time in the Big Ten with a mark of 21.22, also produced at the Big Ten Championships.

So the facilities didn't hold this young man back. Maybe getting kids here are about fancy buildings and bells and whistles, but nothing beats out working your opponent.

Its also nice to see him beating Mclaughlin from Michigan. Mclaughlin went to Union Catholic in NJ and was, if I'm not mistaken, the HS national champion in the 400 last year, both are freshman now. I'm sure this will be the first battle of many between those two.

And just think how much better the athletes can be with better facilities...

Why would you possibly put a negative spin on this thread celebrating some amazing accomplishments by one of our own, no less a freshman? He could be an all-time great before he's done. Just be happy for a moment and appreciate what this kid has done!

Truly condescending with no merit And as for a track guy all you need is ground to run on. Facilities bullshit you just like to berate Rutgers
