OT: Elder Millennials Unite!! Pop Punk nirvana is real!!

Good music is timeless. Since the music scene has not changed much in the last 25 year's, many Millennials and Z's have started to listen to the Great music of the late 70's, the 80's, and the last decade that ROCK the 90's!

We always did.

People who like this music attended 80s parties at RU. And probably listened to Sublime, Pearl Jam, etc which greatly influenced the rock music of the early 00s.

Possibly the best festival in the history of our species has been announced.

When We Were Young 2023
https://www.whenwewereyoungfestival.com/

Blink 182
Green Day
Simple Plan
Sum 41
Good Charlotte
New Found Glory
Bowling For Soup
The Offspring
Lit
Yellowcard

And this is just the tip of the iceberg!
Take all of my money.
Literally all of it.
Never heard of anybody on that list after Green Day. Do any of those bands ever play any songs in a time-signature other than 4/4?

Other than The Front Bottoms, Thursday (did not realize they were still around) and Pinkshift (very good new band)--Meh.

"Mannequin Pussy?" That's even worse than my "it's not necrophilia if the body temp is over 50F" joke.

I have only ever heard of two of those bands (Blink182 and Paramore). I gotta get out more, I guess.

Phantom Planet played the Livingston Gym in approx 2002-2003.
I wish I remembered anyone who played.

This is probably a dumb statement for this older crowd but you would know Phantom Planet for their song "California" that was the theme song of "The O.C."

So why is the top video playing music with bass guitar yet not showing a bass player?
I thought about the same thing, but was just more enthralled with the energy and passion of the lead singer. Love pop/punk or power/pop or whatever they're called high energy bands. Have not seen Pinkshift, but betting they are a lot of fun to see live. Love seeing the crowds go wild. Saw The Wrecks this summer in a small club, and it was a blast. Bent my walker in the mosh pit!

I only know of five of the bands.

@Knight Shift - I have to google because unless I know them by song, I have no clue who the bands are you named above.
I’d like to see Blink 182, but not for the price of these tickets.

I really thought I could beat your 5 but only got to 4 before needing Google.

I preferred The Hills… haha
After googling I realized I do know this song.

Didn't watch the whole thing but not hearing much I'd call "pop" in there 😄

Good pump up vid, tho.
Have that downloaded on my tablet. I giggle like a little kid whenever I watch it on a plane. Sorry for the brief nudity. That was a tribute to Chainsaw Steve Smith. Some great and obscure bands on that sound track. Can never go wrong with Motorhead and a mountain biking. I listen to that soundtrack quite a bit when I ride.

Not a huge Rancid fan, but this is great for downhills:

My 5yo daughter LOVES Avril Lavigne.
As soon as we get in the car her first words are "Can you put on I don't Like your girlfriend? And I want to watch the video on your phone while it plays."
I think next year she wants to dress as her for Halloween next year. Pink hair, white tank top and a tie.

She's also big into We The Kings "Check Yes, Juliet" right now - a song about sneaking out to see your BF. I'm already in trouble.

Get that girl a skateboard! You’re talking to a girl who used Manic Panic on her hair the 4 years of HS so I love to hear this.

Pop punk is one of the biggest insults to real music of all time, tho
I disagree. it was a more accessible form of punk without the anger of the early 80's punk. Music evolves, different generations like the music they were in their "coming of age" years. Honestly I could not tell you who is at the top of the charts over the past 10 years. My time as a consumer of music was coming to its end when most of the bands on this tour stars were starting to dim. That being said I would gladly pay a few thousand to capture the spirit on my youth again!

This post is a perfect example on this board of a someone I vehemently disagree with on some topics, but then find complete agreement on others. Congratulations. You just won a ride in my F150 Lightning EV Truck. We can listen to pop punk until my battery runs dead.

I usually, to learn about a band I never heard of, head to Google search and then to YouTube to listen to a few songs. But don't want to do that for "Mannequin Pussy" 'cause I fear I'd wind up on a list. Or, you know, another list.

As for seeing Blink182, it sounds like it might be a great mother-daughter event. What you need is a boyfriend that would happily buy you a couple of the $1200 Tier 1 tickets for you and your kid, just for being you. Tell donut-breath I said that. 😀

Unfortunately my daughter is more of a Carrie Underwood than Travis Barker fan. She turns 18 soon so I figure I’d get her those tickets as part of her gift. It’s also about $200 cheaper.
I may need some Whiskey or whatever the country singers write songs about. 🤠 Lol

Well if your charge gauge says 300 miles I expect about 135 - 150 miles at 60 MPH Thats about 2.5 hours so we could get through some sum41 (my favorite band of that era) some Blink 182, and some Good Charlotte. When we run out of electricity chances are we will have to stop somewhere for a few hours to recharge so I will go to a bar get drunk and then won't remember your bitchin and complaining about Climate change! LOL!

No. That would be a violation of the Hipster Doofus Federation bylaws.
I mean, I really shouldn't point fingers on this.

Because I'm a charter member of both the Doofus Federation (just not the Hipster branch), as well as the Propeller Beanie Cap Federation. So for example I get fined if I don't consume enough weekly episodes of Beavis & Butthead, South Park, and any of the Star Trek series except Deep Space Nine, which was bad enough to be stricken from the required list.

I just get totally bored with music that uses the same 2-3 chord progressions, same guitar effect sounds, same tempo, same key signatures, same time signatures, and same boring rhythms while the singer yells at me, for all it's songs except the gratuitous slow song, which they usually phone in and usually sucks.

I, however, remain perfectly unencumbered and free to continue vehemently disagreeing with BS about this and many other subjects : )

I do enjoy his choppin' chatter, though.

I don't post picks all that often because I'm usually wrong.

This is a huge game for Minnesota. They absolutely need a win to salvage the season. I say RU completely ruins things and puts rowboat protege guy on the hot seat - like we did to BC. RU wins turnover battle and the game with a late 4th Q drive. RU 26 Impossible to Hate Bad Guys 24.
