OT: Elder Millennials Unite!! Pop Punk nirvana is real!!

I don't post picks all that often because I'm usually wrong.

This is a huge game for Minnesota. They absolutely need a win to salvage the season. I say RU completely ruins things and puts rowboat protege guy on the hot seat - like we did to BC. RU wins turnover battle and the game with a late 4th Q drive. RU 26 Impossible to Hate Bad Guys 24.
Are you in the right thread? This is the thread where pop punks and EV haters and lovers unite.

Well if your charge gauge says 300 miles I expect about 135 - 150 miles at 60 MPH Thats about 2.5 hours so we could get through some sum41 (my favorite band of that era) some Blink 182, and some Good Charlotte. When we run out of electricity chances are we will have to stop somewhere for a few hours to recharge so I will go to a bar get drunk and then won't remember your bitchin and complaining about Climate change! LOL!
knight shift, I hope you realize I was trying to be funny. not sure why you gave me the angry emoji.

You're doing it wrong?
Throw out the critical ear. Go to a show and enjoy the energy.
I mean, speaking of EVs, that could your advice to me on why I have zero interest in an EV sports car. I just need to throw out my ear and enjoy the energy. 😀

He was just channeling the anger evident in the music to which this thread refers. Don't take it any more personally than you do when all these bands start yelling at you.

Do you think practicing to Fall Out Boy will help, hinder or no effect?

It was more about your crap musical taste. Good Charlotte? How about Rancid, Sonic Youth, The Interrupters, and Bad Religion?

See I never thought of that stuff as pop punk, but perhaps my mistake. I like Rancid and Sonic Youth.

What I really dislike is the late 90s/early 00s era stuff so poppy and sterile it could follow Celine Dion on 97.5 after featuring in the latest tweener rom com with Josh Hartnett and Seth Green.

I graduated HS in 94 so Nirvana became big my freshman or sophomore year. I’ve never ever heard of Allen those bands. I’d rather add Pearl Jam (probably too big), rage against the machine, and onyx

Rage is done. Zach has some sort of injury. Plus they had to change their name to We Love the Machine. They also had to change lyrixs from " F you, I won't do what you tell me" to "F those that don't do what they tell you." Poseurs

Never heard of Thursday (not the day!)? @RU848789 probably knows them personally?
I know the band's music a little bit (but not the band - never saw them), but that emo scream style has never been quite my cup of tea. My son likes them and other early emo/hardcore bands from the late 90s and early 2000s. In fact, he and his friends just saw Algernon Cadwallader (emo, late 2000s from Philly) in Philly this week on their first tour in 10 years and said it was great.

None of those bands would be called pop-punk: Rancid is ska/punk, Sonic Youth is alt/punk, The Interrupters are ska/punk and Bad Religion were close to original punks.

Thanks! Will likely get tickets to this - great lineup. Since people seem to be interested, I've heard of (meaning know the band exists and have heard at least one song) 16 of these bands.

I know the headliners reasonably well (except Turnstile), especially Blink (who I love), Bleachers and Japanese Breakfast (like both of them a lot, too). Not a fan of Coheed and Cambria (Matt Pinfield "discovered" them). Like Jimmy Eat World and Idles a lot from the next row and am a huge fan of Beach Bunny in the next row (and like Pup). Like Midtown and Jeff Rosenstock a bunch, as well as Motion City Soundtrack and love Surf Curse. On the last 3 rows of bands in small type I know Slaughter Beach and the Linda Lindas (just a little). Have only seen 4 of these bands, live: Blink, Bleachers, Midtown and Jeff Rosenstock.

Here are two songs from Beach Bunny: the first, Prom Queen got them reasonably well known in the indie world and the second is their single from their new album, which is a bit more polished.

Technically correct, but I hate sun genres more than I hate genres. However, having a hard time calling Rancid ska punk. They are fairly hard edged and seem more pure punk.

The non definitive source Wikipedia classifies the Ramones as pop punk, which is off.

Pop is short for popular, and all of those bands have enjoyed mainstream popularity. Regardless, they are all good bands.

I didn't consult Wikipedia, lol. You need to go listen to more Rancid. They're one of my all-time favorite bands, growing out of ska-punk legends Operation Ivy and while one might call them more punk, they clearly have a strong ska streak running through many of their songs (but not all). Time Bomb, arguably their biggest hit, was absolutely a ska-punk masterpiece that still makes me want to get up and skank all over the dance floor, lol. And if you don't want to take my word for it, this AP article sums it up nicely...

Turnstile is the best band you have never heard of before. Great live show and put a new twist on hard-core with their most recent record.

Adjacent fest lineup is cool but $400 for the weekend. Might havr a better timr at all of the pre and latr night shows that will be anchor or bourre. Better off going to down to Jacksonville for Fest, which always has the best lineups. These huge festivals generally hurt local music scenes though as older people 30s and 40s tend to gravitate to larger nostalgic festivals rather than supporting $10-20 shows. It is easier to go all in on a weekend sometimes with other responsibilities and see 10-12 bands over 2 days.

After doing some research the $400 isn’t so bad. Paramore play at Beacon theatre in November and the tickets start at over $300!!
Why?!?!!!!

Looks like a great lineup. A little heavy for my tastes, but I do like several of those bands a lot, especially the Melvins, Killing Joke, She Wants Revenge, the Deftones and System of a Down, who I'm a little surprised is at the top of the bill. Saw them about 14 years ago with my son and they can bring it. I also don't see how they can have that many bands in one day without having stages running at the same time, meaning one couldn't see everyone.

System of a Down and Evanescence are the only two I recognize. I'm surprised you're surprised SoaD is top billing out of the bunch.

This puts the other festival to shame

This is the beautiful thing about music. Despite differences we may have on a variety of things, we find common ground on music.

Who's going in the mosh pit with me?

I'm not a big fan of festivals. My last one was an Ozzfest, which actually had System of a Down on the bill, and they were great. Not sure if it was the same one, but one had Marilyn Manson, and while not a fan, they put on a fabulous show. Same for Primus.

I can take or leave the Deftones. Saw them early in their career at a small theater in Phoenix, and it was a good show. But caught them at the Stone Pony summer stage more recently, and meh.

That aside, there is a good handful of bands on that bill I would like to see, but sitting through the others will be difficult.

Have seen Korn a few times. First time was 1995, before they broke big, in a small club in Cincinnati. Easily one of the top 5 or 10 shows I have ever seen. Energy in the crowd was off the charts.

The intriguing one to me is Mr. Bungle, comprising Mike Patton from Faith No More, Scott Ian from Anthrax and Dave Lombardo, formerly the drummer from Slayer.

Mike Patton bowed out of a Faith No More tour due to "issues" he was having. Hope they can make this one.

I always liked your posts but someone in your generation liking SOAD and Deftones is even more awesome than expected!

Incubus is excellent live. Their concert at PNC this summer was maybe their best yet and I have seen them there and in Camden more than once.

I also saw Hoobastank a few weeks ago and they were a very pleasant surprise. Korn was good last summer. Would love to see SOAD and Deftones and would definitely be interested in a few of the other acts like Chevelle, Soulfly, Placebo, and Papa Roach- assuming Papa Roach focuses on the first album, which was fantastic, unlike the others.

OMG- did not see Placebo. Have heard they are awesome live. Chevelle is good live-more sonic, not visual. Would rather see Sepultura than Soulfly, but now I'm thinking I may go. Vegas is 4 hours from our place in Arizona and a fun drive.

Just saw Monster Magnet is on the bill too--from Red Bank area. Ran into Dave Wyndorff (sp) at the Acme in Fair Haven during Superstorm Sandy when I was picking up food for the Fire Dept. Nice guy.

Ozzfest 2003 at PNC had both Korn and Chevelle on the main stage.
Great show (mostly Korn, Disturbed and Manson - not so much Chevelle).

Saw Deftones with Metallica at Giants Stadium in 2002(?)
Saw Korn and Papa Roach many many times.

I might still pick the pop punk concert but it's very close.

Pretty much this. Although stopped listening to rage when they became the spokesmen for the Biden admin
