OT: Fran Brown hired by Syracuse

Douglas was plan "B" after Tiquan Underwood rejected Fran Brown's offer to join his staff.

Sorry Fran!
Fran Brown was plan C. You think they originally wanted a position coach for the head coach.

What Funny is Pittsburgh doesn’t even acknowledge on their board that Fran Brown has been hired by Cuse as if they aren’t in the same conference and BC barely acknowledges the hire. We obsessed people go on and on how they can be good next year. However, there a few Cuse fans posting on this board.

Most of the conversation here revolves around Fran having a history with RU football. And the fact that he has now hired or attempted to hire multiple people with connections to our program. There is no obsession in any of the posts I have seen.

Did Fran coach at Pitt or BC? Your comment is more of a testament to the status or lack thereof of Acc football as a whole. That no one on their boards are talking about their closest rivals shows that the conference is dead.

What a weird post that was? Of course it is a topic of interest here with multiple RU coaches on staff or attempted to being hired. Hits close to home.

They didn’t have a choice. It’s a dead end job.

It’s going to be an epic train wreck.
Fran may get some people to sign on. But who is going to run that program? Sure there are recruiters on that staff but the only person that has been hired with any real experience has been passed over for DC multiple times (Elijah Robinson) and is known more as a recruiter than a tactician. This is GRob without the experience.

A lot of bad areas
As in not safe to drive in during the day, let alone at night

Please, I drive all over the city, at day and at night, there are a few areas that are not good, but that is true in any city. There are nice areas in the city, but most people don't live in the city. CNY is one of the best places to raise a family, low cost of housing, your dollars go a long ways, good schools, easy to get around, I can get in my car in a nice neighborhood, and get to the dome in ~15 minutes. my son was working in the city during the summer on an internship right next to the jail and never had a problem driving him in the morning or picking him up at night late, when he drove he had no problems either, like I said, there are problems in any city. Armory Square area where Pastabilities is located has restaurants and bars and is a nice place to go out.

There is plenty to do around here. Do you like golf, one of the largest numbers of public courses in the country, and a wide range of courses from easy to hard. Plays and concerts, plenty of those options also (between the dome and Lakeview Amphitheatre plenty of big name concerts each year), hiking, biking, skiing, fishing, boating, snowmobiling, beaches on the lakes. The Finger Lakes region has many wineries that are very good and fun to go to. Easy access to nearly any place you want to go, Adirondacks are right near by. When my kids were younger and involved in youth sports easy to get out of work and to the fields or gyms to coach or watch them for practices or games. Gambling seems to be popular these days several different options no more than 30 minutes away and the 2 bigger ones have plenty of entertainment options. I've been all around the country and every place has their pros and cons. Some of you act like there is snow on the ground from October to May, let's see it was nearly 60 degrees yesterday, good thing we had a bunch of recruits in. Yes we do get snow in Syracuse, much of it lake effect off of Lake Ontario, but we know how to keep the roads clear and keep things open. It is not a big deal, a few weeks of frigid cold in the winter, a few weeks of 90s in the summer and the rest is not that bad. We do have some winter thaws where it warms up and the snow melts.

Restaurants, plenty of good places to eat, someone mentioned Pastabilities was the only good place, again I've eaten around the country and there are plenty of places to eat around here that are good. I've talked with fans over the years from Tennessee, Auburn, Clemson, Purdue, Ohio State, Michigan, LSU, Florida State, Florida, BYU, Texas, Oklahoma among others that have come here for games and liked the area.

You can put the Syracuse area down, your opinion but I have lived in the city for a few years, then moved out to one of the nearby suburbs and haven't regretted living in the Syracuse area, plenty to do, and easy access to everything and my family has loved it.

While mot Gary, Indiana, Camden, New Jersey, or East St. Louis, it is generally not a good area.

We can argue about the merits of the city, and what it has to offer or agree to disagree

Being that it’s Sunday and you probably want to watch the fourth-quarter of the bills game, I suggest we do the latter

It's just message-board parroting. I feel like 90% of internet talk is this. Many folks who don't have a clue just repeat anything they've read that fits what they want to believe.

New Jersey, my adopted state, is one of the biggest victims of this. People who have never been within a thousand miles of Jersey are quick to speak about what a terrible place it is. When it's actually a nice place to live, in my opinion...

I've been up to Syracuse many times. It snows in May and gets dark at 3:30 in the winter. It's an economic frozen dust bowl. It's basically a smaller, more depressed Newark if you placed it somewhere at the arctic circle.

The summers are nice though, especially the local state parks. The campus can be very pretty in the snow. Other than that it's cheap to live up there for a reason.

The main reason the housing is affordable is because while the Syracuse city population has declined over the years the Greater Syracuse population has increased slowly, people have moved out of the city to the suburbs and those moving into the area are settling in the suburbs, housing prices have risen a bit but are still very reasonable since there hasn't been a massive influx. Has nothing to do with the snow or sunsets or lack of things to do, which you are a bit off on the darkness times and snow in May, yes a few trace amounts once in a great while a bit more often in April, but not enough to disrupt things much.

As far as the economy small businesses have buoyed the job losses from larger corporations over the years, I’ve been a bit surprised myself how many business parks have sprouted up around the area . The northern suburbs have grown since there was plenty of open land. Others have moved a bit further south of Syracuse where they can buy larger plots of land and build nice houses. But again I'm happy with the current situation as are most with easy access to anywhere in the area and an abundance of things to do, in the winter or summer. That may change a bit as Micron plans on spending an initial 20 billion on their new fab 20 minutes north of Syracuse with a potential for 100 billion over the next 20 years. That will be a big boost to the economy but also put upward pressure on house prices which has already been seen. There has been a slight increase in the city population recently as developers have renovated older buildings into apartments, shops and office space with a younger population moving in.

Like I said this is a great area to raise a family, with low crime rate overall in the area. Every city has its good and bad areas, I’ve been here for 40 years now and spent a few years living in a city neighborhood. Some nicer neighborhoods in the city and some not so nice ones. But to each his own,

I don’t hold the same animosity towards Rutgers fans as some SU fans do, I enjoy meeting and talking with fans from other schools when they come to games. But those putting down the Syracuse area as bad and not having anything to do haven’t spent much time here or haven’t looked very hard, either way I guess at this point is doesn’t matter.

I don’t know how things will work out with Fran Brown, Baber’s recruiting left a lot to be desired, our starting talent wasn’t bad, but lack of depth hurt as the season wore on and injuries mounted. If Brown can bring in some unexpected players now in this class and have a good first year, the schedule is not daunting next year, that could help with momentum going forward. Baber’s also was not a great game time coach so anything we get now going forward may be an improvement. Time will tell.

Now they got a 5 star WR transfer in the Portal from Georgia.
I’m glad Syracuse is off our schedule for awhile.

Where you live is what you make of it. I have been to New Jersey and always enjoyed myself. Only once, in November 1999 I believe did I not have a good time. I live on the Tug Hill of northern NY. 55 miles north of Syracuse. We get 3 times the snowfall that Syracuse does. As of now, 12-13-23, we have no snow. I have only seen it snow in the month of May, once in my almost 72 years. I know this because I keep a weather journal. I got in this habit while working on the newspaper business. I am retired now, but I keep it as old habits die hard. I can assure you, Syracuse, being south of me is no frozen tundra. I do find that humorous though.

Very true about your first sentence and I really enjoyed November 1999. I am wondering if you were the Cuse fan behind us. However just Google Tug Hill NY and all the pictures are snow. Says 200" every year. My brother has a cabin near Lowville and they get hammered. My nephew goes to Clarkson and says he hates going outside in winter.

At the end of November the area got 6"-"42". I know my brother got 20"+.

I see Jackson Meeks, 3 star WR on all rating services, caught 1 pass in 2023, hardly a great transfer.

Yeah, 10 receptions in 3 years . One year left to play. Per an article on his verbal, Fran told him he’ll get plenty of action up there - lol.

Pretty much a bust for Georgia. They probably drove him to the airport.

They needed his spot for the freshman superstar WR they just recruited. Georgia paid the NIL to go to Syracuse and brought the airline ticket.

A lot of smoke and mirrors in Syracuse.

Yes, we got 9" in November. Since then just a dusting. Lowville is a nice place. I once interviewed Chuck Schumer there once. Canton-Potsdam area is known more for cold temperatures than snow. At that game in 1999, our seats were 50 yard line in 300 section I believe.
