Just doing some early postseason reflection. It seems to me that we have a number of things going for us, but we are missing some things as well.
One thing that is missing is some serious, high-level, counsel on a number of fronts. Look where we are: Ash is in his first year as HC; Mehringer as OC; Niemann in his first year at the P5 level; and special teams is a bit of a disaster.
At the same time, a number of veteran head coaches are about to be relieved of their duties over the next few weeks; some have been already. Might it be time to pick one of these guys up for a year or two to help with the transition? An associate head coach spot? A Fridge-type appointment?
I'm an incredibly patient person (how else could I be an RU fan). I have hopes that Ash will right the ship and lead us back into winning seasons. But I can't help but think that maybe he needs a bit of help right now. Look at bball. Pikiell, who has HC experience, still got to bring in an incredibly talented and experienced group of assistants. I think we need that kind of help in football. I don't want to advocate anybody being set free, but I think we seriously need some additional expertise and experience on the coaching front.
