OT: Great BBC article on the B-52

Wow this thread title is confusing. First off I REALLY thought this was gonna be about the band. Thought it was awfully random for a football board, but meh, to each its own. Second? BBC means something entirely different in the world of porn, so that made me even more confused, hahaha! Then I read the post and it all made sense. ;)

What's stunning is the fact that the plane will be flying 90 years after it's introduction. In comparison, look at what was flying 90 years ago, 1925, and how they would be viewed today.

Hard to believe that they're planning on extending it's lifetime into the 2040's.

America's iconic war machine

same with the A-10 Warthog. Was supposed to drop off prior to the first Iraq war until it kicked so much A$$ and took hit after hit and brought the pilots back.

Something to be said for good old metal..and structure.

Can keep building the latest bells and whistles on top of a solid base.

Cool. Thanks for posting. I made a B-52 model back in the day. Was an early varient with quad 20mm cannon in the tail.

These bad boys generate some serious smog. That's probably why the USAF is keeping them around. They only have to meet 1955 emissions requirements. And the EPA is coming down on me for my wood stove, and leaf blower.

Flying tank! Hate to have one after me!

Great article, thanks for sharing. Those B-52s are a huge part of US military and aviation history. Just amazing they have 70 something going strong. Many old jets and aircraft are in the "boneyard" you can see on satellite. Still some old b52s they use for parts but they are being scrapped fast.

I've been inside a B52. Not the most solid construction. It's amazing that they are still in circulation. They used to patch them up with Duct tape.
