Dabo Swinney adding Mike Houston to his Clemson staff
Houston saw success as the head coach at ECU, The Citadel, Lenoir-Rhyne, and won a national title at James Madison.
In his sixth season at East Carolina, he was let go back in October after a 3-4 start.
He had led the Pirates to 7-5 and 8-5 seasons in 2021 and 2022, but ECU dropped to 2-10 in 2023 and the slow start to this past fall (2024)left decision makers wanting to go in a new direction.
ESPN shares that Houston is joining the staff to work on the defensive side of the ball.

Names emerge for Texas defensive backs opening
Anwar Richardson of Orangebloods reported three candidates for the position on Monday, two of whom are cornerbacks coaches.
Richardson reported that Notre Dame cornerbacks coach Mike Mickens, Pitt assistant head coach/secondary coach Cory Sanders, and Rutgers cornerbacks coach Mark Orphey are candidates for the post:

Orphey, a Houston native, has coached Rutgers's cornerbacks since 2022. He spent one season at Alabama -- 2021, the year after Sark took the Texas job -- and previously coached defensive backs at Utah State and Montana State. Mark Orphey are candidates for the post:

After leading the Ducks to the #1 spot in college football for most of last season, Dan Lanning and Oregon have reportedly agreed to an amended deal that comes with a significant pay day.
Yahoo Sports shares that Lanning has agreed to an amended 6-year deal taking him through the 2030 season.
His original deal ran for six years at just over $29 million, and the extension last year took his pay from $4.7 million to a base salary of $7.2 million for the 2024 season. When he hit the 10-win mark last fall, the salary increased to $8.4 million.
The latest amended deal is fully-guaranteed and averages nearly $11 million that puts him among the highest paid coaches in college football.

Bowling Green: Sources tell FootballScoop Bowling Green has reached an agreement with Eddie George to become new head coach of the Falcons
The former Ohio State Heisman winner, who has done an impressive job rebuilding the Tennessee State (FCS) program, has reached an agreement to become the new head coach of the Falcons, sources tell FootballScoop.
At Tennessee State, George has rebuilt the program quickly, notching back-to-back winning seasons. His 15 wins the past two seasons are the most for the program dating back to the 2012-13 seasons.
The success at the FCS level led to an opportunity to interview for the open Chicago Bears job this off season.
At Bowling Green, he replaces Scot Loeffler, who left for the Eagles quarterbacks job after a 7-6 campaign and bowl trip.
Pete Thamel adds that George's deal is for five-years.
