OT-ish: 2024-25 NCAAF Coaching Carousel

BB going to UNC is a move that while not exactly the same as Deion, I think rhymes with it. It'll be a big attention grabbing story next year and I can imagine the ratings for UNC games should be quite good out the outset at least.

Hard to believe this is going down. He will need a recruiting staff and an NIL manager. As a pure football coach, he has forgotten more than many of his competitors will know. I just can’t see him speaking to a bunch of wide eyed 18,19,20 year olds, “ Now I want you guys to stay off Instaface!”. Different worlds colliding.

He might not be speaking to many "younger" players. Might go the Deion route and rely heavy on the portal for more "mature" "veteran" players. The biggest selling point is path to the NFL so they'll listen.

Excellent points raised by Kayla Burton. She is a rising star in sports reporting. Played college hoops at Lehigh.

Wow- X post deleted!!!! She was talking about developing young HS players into college players, dealing with issues of very young students handling the issues of being a student and being an athlete being a different set of challenges. Was able to screenshot it:

Some good stuff in Nicole A's article:

Wonder if Bill consulted with Greg, or if he just talked to his son. Maybe they are making a big deal about this--he's dating a 24 year old, so maybe a 72 year old guy will be very relatable to 18-22 year olds?

College football is more complicated than its professional counterpart in some significant ways, as coaches report to university presidents and boards of trustees in addition to athletic department officials. They are expected to wine, dine and dazzle donors. They travel all over the country to recruit teenagers and spend the rest of the time building relationships with the 18- to 22-year-olds on their rosters, worried that they might transfer out of their programs or demand more monetary compensation at any point. They’re general managers, chief marketing officers and — oh, yeah — football coaches all at the same time.

If that does not work out and Frost goes cold at UCF, UCF and WVU could just swap coaches and see if that works out.
Both in the B12, between the 2 I'd put greater probability on RR recreating his magic (proven again at Arizona, JSU) at WVU than Frost creating his at UCF but we'll see.

Yeah, if I was a gambling man and had to bet the house, I would put my money on Rich Rod doing better than Frost. I will live to eat those words.
Based on what?

Pat white and sleeve slaton and aren’t walking through the door anytime soon, Recruiting in West Virginia is non existent, they haven’t been good in forever, and that program’s best days are behind them unless they get a whale donor for NIL.

Meanwhile, frost had massive success at UCF, their recruiting base is strong down there, and they’ll certainly see a jump in that and $$$ now they’re in the big 12 and getting that P5 prestige and $$$

Additionally, UCF is the first school to announce theyve essentially disbanded their sole venture NIL collective and merged it with Boosters

While I don’t think frost will re-create the magic he had in his first stint at UCF, I can’t see Rich Rod even coming close to what he did in his first stint at West Virginia

I’ve heard the O/U for 2025 for UNC football is 6.5 , a review of their 2025 screams take the over. I can’t believe how light this is. Would be shocked if Belichick doesn’t get them to at least 8 or 9 wins:

I'm not saying Frost won't do great but Rich Rod has won EVERYWEHRE he's been except Michigan and thats because they didn't give him a chance there
Glenville State: 43-28
WV 60-26
Arizona 43-35
Jax State 27-10

I just saw a little bit of it but the during the CUSA title game it looked like Slaton and White out there between the qb and rb.

Quick lookup of the stats and their qb Tyler Huff threw for 2200 and ran for 1300. Their RB Tre Stewart ran for 1600. Deja vu to me lol.

Regarding Frost, it was widely speculated that most of his issues at Nebraska were the result of a messed up personal life. Hopefully, he’s pulled it all together and will be Sakesian part two

He had a few issues at Michigan with players and NCAA rule violations.

Arizona from Wikipedia:
Rodriguez's former administrative assistant filed a multimillion-dollar claim accusing him of sexually harassing her and creating a hostile work environment for years.[56] Rodriguez was fired on January 2, 2018, after a three-month internal investigation by the Arizona Wildcats.[57][56] He admitted to having an extramarital affair, but denied all allegations of other sexual misconduct.[57] The lawsuit filed by his former administrative assistant was dismissed in September 2019. [58]

Other than Jax State, he left under a cloud of controversy.

Worst of luck to him.

Rich Rod to WVU.

Greg 2 and Rich Rod 2.

HAIL TO PITT!!!!
Both better hope to do better than Johnny 2 at Pitt
J1 was 33-13 before moving to Tenn.
J2 wound up 12-32.

I think Greg might have the advantage because the RU fanbase supports him, except for a few that don't want him
RR might have more detractors among the boosters and be under more pressure to produce and less time to build the type of program the fans want .,

I'll take Greg for 8 years Panther
RR gone after 4

Majors 2 is usually the poster child for encores aren't always as good as the first round.

Agree but we are in the new era of NIL and Transfer Portal.

Although second time coaches usually do not live up to their first round accomplishments.

See how it goes for both schools.

HAIL TO PITT!!!!

Scott Frost at UCF is another 2nd time worth seeing if the 2nd time around will work out.
Play in the Big 12 might be a little harder then when he coached the Golden Knights in the AAC.
