Anyone been following this kid? He's a pitcher at Barnegat High School who is regarded as the number 1 prospect in next years draft. Hits high 90s with his fastball and just threw a 7-inning no-hitter with 19 strikeouts. A lot of people saying he could be the best prospect to come out of NJ, with lots of comparison to TR North's JM Gold, from the late 90s.

I believe the Phillies have the first selection in the draft. A tall left hand pitcher who throws over 90 on the radar gun is wanted by every baseball organization.

His parents sent him to IMG for his junior year with strict orders, and a mandatory pitch count. His parents are not playing around. Rutgers is simply not an option for a kid of this caliber.

I hope they are protecting that kid's arm.

Like to hear Rick Wolff's take.

Not following him, but heard about him reading some Phillies blogs, with them looking at him as the potential #1 pick. High school pitchers are risky, but this kid seems to have it all. Good luck to him.

He faced the minimum number of batters over 7 innings:21. He had 19 strikeouts, I pop fly out , and picked off the one batter who reached base on an error. Not a perfect game, but the very best next thing.

And that's without throwing a curveball because his Dad won't let him. Amazing.

College probably won't be an option. Assuming he stays on track he'll see $4 to $7 million for a signing bonus. Screw college.

I heard them talking about him last week on the south jersey version of ESPN radio. He is not going to college from what I hear and they expect him to be one of the first 4 picks in the MLB draft.

There is another kid down here at Ocean City HS, Sean Mooney, who throws around 90MPH. Last week he struck out 11 in 4 innings. Unfortunately he is heading to St Johns next year, from what I understand his dad also played there. Not sure if RU was in the mix.

Was flipping through Baseball America's fantasy baseball magazine a couple of months ago and they had a blurb on the best prospects for upcoming draft, they listed Groome #1 overall and compared his stuff to Kershaw's.

Several decades ago, there was a story about a baseball scout who phoned his front office about a pitcher.

"Boss.I've just seen the greatest pitcher ever.He struck all 27 batters.Nobody even hit a foul ball off of him until two out in the 9th.What do you want me to do?"

The boss replied:"Sign up the guy who hit the foul ball.We need hitters."

He's the real deal from what I have heard. Should be a great pitching match up when barneget plays my old high school Somerville. Will be a match up of two lefty pitches who throw in the 90's. The Somerville pitcher is heading to coastal Carolina next year.

Just saw that too. Unreal. It probably doesn't mean a heck of a lot in the end, and will reduce the risk of injury.

So when the Phillies draft him & have him start with the BlueClaws, does he live at home & commute to games, or does he get one of those rabbi dorms in Lakewood?

If this saves him from the Phillies it will help his career in the long run

Why? He won't be in the majors for 3-4 years anyway and the Phillies have changed the past couple of years. This isn't the Ruin Tomorrow Jr. lead team without an analytics department. They've made a lot of changes to the organization and had made some good moves in the past 2 years to position themselves for a success in that time frame.
