The "Yankee town" thing is a relatively recent phenomenon due to the 90s-00s run by the Yankees coupled with the Mets mostly stinking. That's when the Yankees drew 4 million. Before that, however, NY was -and likely will be again- a national league town. I believe the Mets were the first NY baseball team to draw 1 million, 2 million and 3 million.
"Retardi"? :okay:
That's helpful. Seems that the Yankees had hit 1 and 2 million before the Mets were created. But your reference nonetheless proves my point. Almost right off the bat the Mets were outdrawing the Yankees. The Mets outdrew them from 64-75, every year. And then again from 1984-92, including hitting 3 million a dozen years before the Yankees ever did. Then the Mets tanked for years, and the Yankees went on their run.Nice try but the Yanks had drawn 2 million in a season before the mets even existed, the Mets did draw 3 million first though in 87 and 88 http://www.baseball-almanac.com/teams/metsattn.shtml http://www.baseball-almanac.com/teams/yankatte.shtml
I believe that's true with all teams. The Mets reached 2 million in 69, 70, 71, and 72. The Yankees previously hit that mark in 1950 and didn't really come close to it again until 2 million in 1976.
It appears that when a team is up or down in NY, attendance follows suit.
Yanks with another loss last night.
I'm guessing you'll write this another 70-75 times this year
