OT-Lefty whiffed on 18

Lefty sucks. These guys practice so they say non-stop and then Amateurs and old has beens come out and out play them. Lefty is supposed to be great around the greens but he is just terrible. Besides the fact he cannot hot a 100 yd wide fairway

With the easier course set up and favorable weather conditions, one of the leaders will shoot 6 under today to win.

No way somebody shoots 6 under on this course. Probably more than one player will make the 6 birdies, but there is no way anybody goes around this course with no boogies or doubles. Not going to happen.

I disagree. From what I've seen today, the players ,as a group, are scoring much better than in any of the prior rounds. I think the USGA gave in to the players whining and made the holes much more accessible . #12 will be an eagle fest and 16 and 18 are ridiculous. Somebody will get an ace on the par 4 12th. It should be entertaining.

Phil pisses me off he will get a great birdie and then 9 times out if 10 will bogey the next hole

Rory may shoot a 62

We will see what happens. I just watched JB Holmes, one of the leaders hit a wedge into one and was within 4 ft of being perfect roll off the green 63 yards down the hill, hit a chip that came back down to his feet, took his medicine, chipped it way past the hole and missed the putt back, and holed the last putt for a double bogey. There are too many holes like this.

I agree they have set up some holes easier and birdies will be made, but its hard to avoid those bogeys and doubles which will prevent a score of 64, which you are predicting.

Again, would love to see it, but don't think it will happen. We'll know about 11pm ET tonight. Can't wait to see.

Those that can't do bitch.

There's no doubt Phil spit the bit after 9 holes Friday. He had a terrible TOURNAMENT. He's the same guy who shot a 65 last Sunday and has more Major Championships than all but 12 golfers in history. We should all "suck" as bad at our jobs as he does his.

On the shot in question his club went under the ball. I've seen it happen already in this tournament. It's something that can easily happen in tall thick grass.

I seriously doubt there's anyone here who can say they'd shoot 90 at that course under US Open conditions.

Personally I think the entire set up committee for the USGA should be ashamed of themselves.

I do find it a bit amusing Norman is talking course design. The course he designed at Barefoot Landing in Myrtle Beach is one of the most universally disliked courses out of 70+ in the area.

I am a 15 hanidcap, sign me for about 105 saving that with a birdie on 18!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I dont have as big a problem with the greens as I do with good shots that should be 20 ft from the hole rolling off 60 yards away. But it is a US Open, so there are going to be bad results on decent shots, just the way it is, but not 60 yards.

I agree , but on the other hand there are far too many feeder greens that make what could be interesting holes into gimmes.

Some of these guys are really a bunch of whiners. Take them outside their comfort zones and all they do is bitch. I was at Shinnecock in 95 when the greens were like the Runway at JFK. And the winds were howling. That was tough.

At least you're refreshingly honest. I think the biggest problem is you can't have a 7500 yard course and expect even elite pros to stop the ball on those terrible greens.

It's become a test of luck, not skill.

That's an absolute insult to the round Rory has played so far. You know better.

It is what it is, at that length and penalty for not landing the balls in the right spot is a recipe for disasters for amateurs. Not to mention pros who have shot in the mid eighties here.

1 or 2 guys so far out of 70 something? Rory just hit a shot that almost went in on the 2nd hop. His reward? He now has a 72 foot downhill putt left. WHICH HE MADE!!!!! LOL.

It was obvious after the 1st day of practice that there were going to be issues. They could have softened the greens a bit rather than making it look like mini golf.

So far, 19 guys are shooting under par in today 's round. Yesterday, there were a total of 6.

I'm wrong about Rory. He may shoot less than 62.

I think -7 or -8 wins. I'd be surprised if one of the leaders doesn't go low. Day would be a miracle.

That would shock me. You're saying one of them is going to shoot -3 or -4? That's a lot to expect. Sounds like you may know, how many players have shot -4 today?

Five under for the day after 15, 62 not looking good, but if he posts -3 or -4 you never know.

The way he's playing he could eagle both 16 and 18, but after his drive on 16, that won 't happen. The miss on 15 was big.

I think there have been 4 at 4 under or better and 3 at 3 under- so far and those weren't the good guys at the top (lol). The USGA caved in today

Rory played great, but once he realized he wasn't going to win, he let down a little, still a good round, plenty of birdies, but nobody gets around this course with no bogeys.

His putter got chilly at the wrong time, but still a terrific round. Spieth so far looks less inspired than I thought he'd be. He also can't sink a putt. Maybe he's got something in the tank. This is DJ's to lose and given his past that would not shock me.

Edit- not shocked by DJ's miss miss on 18. Went almost as scripted by Spieth.

Scott just shot 64 and is in the clubhouse at -3 - course playing far easier today...
Notwithstanding all of the low scores today , the four at the top are showing the rigors of pressure. None of them look comfortable. Day has an excuse. Plenty of golf to be played and easier holes coming up. I still say -8 wins this.

No way this thing gets to -8. I'd sign for -5 now.

Not ashamed to admit I want an American to win. That said, if as it now appears it comes down to Spieth and Grace on the 18th tee, I'm betting on Grace. He just seems a lot more relaxed and under control at the moment

Can't disagree with this, but having won a major, Spieth may be able to gather himself, Grace, has to be feeling pressure. If he pures it into the fairway at 18, I will be impressed.

Oost ... ran out of holes. Maybe he'll be in a playoff. He deserves it.

Incredible choke by DJ. 3 putts from 15 feet. Showing the Gretsky clan on greenside all smiles might have jinxed DJ

That'll haunt DJ for quite awhile. But hard not to root for Spieth. -5 was right. The dream of a grand slam lives on. On to St. Andrews.
