The beans n franks offense was necessary because we haven't been able to recruit that stud quarterback who could carry the team on his back, and be a difference maker. The Drew Allars and other similarly big armed quarterbacks have always eluded us because our value proposition isn't as strong as our peers. This is why I've been talking about the importance of NIL and Fieldhouse. Without it, we have to settle for lesser regarded recruits and hope they develop. That's my issue with the GS philosophy of having a beans-n-franks offense that's supposed to limit turnovers while dynamic defense drops the hammer. Great defenses don't grow like weeds. RU is always a group or two short - not to mention lack of depth. DBs are the most consistent but after that its a flea market. Defense needs more athletic types but a few of those have to be heroes (like Ed Reed on GS team) who flash when you expect them to and then when you dont. Just "executing" only works in high school.
So we work to develop our own stud quarterback from recruits or transfers that joined. Hopefully, Athan continues to get better and becomes that difference maker next year.
Powell and Toure, should have been our athletic type Hero LBers. And for one bowl game against Miami last year, they were. This year they were held back by injury, and it was just our bad luck. I have high hopes that our incoming LBers develop into the difference makers we expect them to be. Particularly excited about McClary and Archie, whom I think can play for Penn State and Ohio State. Going into next year, Sanders will be the one stud we have on defense. Will have to wait to see how effective Toure is.
