OT-Lefty whiffed on 18

DJ looked Stunned walking off, unbelievable he would hit his putt so far past the pin and then miss the 3 footer coming back. Nerves did him in.

Absolutely incredible. Play not to lose and .... you lose. Incredible rounds played by the guys without the pressure- mostly the non-Americans. I knew early on that there would be some really low scores out there today. I expected one of the leaders to do so as well. Instead the four of them played over par golf cumulatively.

Of course they'll blame the golf course and the greens, but tell that to Rory, Oost, Scott and a host of others.

I'll give DJ credit for the way he got to the green but he just is not a great short putter. He seems to miss those 6 footers and less more than you'd expect. It was just such a fast 1st putt you just knew if he missed he was going to have a longer than hoped for putt coming back. You never play for the tie but......

Spieth played well except the gag on 17. He seemed like he rushed each shot on that hole.

American players for the most part grow up playing on perfectly manicured country clubs and do the same in college, Web.com, and finally when they join the tour. The Euros don't in many cases. They are more suited to playing on a course like Chambers Bay.

That'll haunt DJ for quite awhile. But hard not to root for Spieth. -5 was right. The dream of a grand slam lives on. On to St. Andrews.

Feel good for Spieth, but that was painful watching DJ on 18. He is just too good a player to keep bungling all these chances in majors.

That's very true and the talk and act like spoiled brats because of it.

The USGA went against the grain and made that course so much easier today. The stats are pretty telling. Today, there were 8 more eagles than yesterday, 53 more birdies, 1 fewer pars, 57 fewer bogies and 3 fewer doubles or worse. Yet, the four leaders played over par and very few Americans stepped up their game.

I'm glad Spieth won . I almost cried when he doubled 17; what an errant tee shot. But then again, Grace lost the tourney on 16. Fox's coverage was simply horrible. I had the sound off for the entire round.

DJ actually was too aggressive on the last green (i.e., playing to win). With 2 putts to tie and force a playoff on a downhill putt, you just have to be a little less aggressive to at least ensure the tie. He missed at least 3 short putts today.

Uhhh, you do know that no Europeans finished in the top 8 don't you?

I feel bad for DJ. Anyone who plays the game can see what his problem is and has done the same thing. Even if you don't FOX played it to death. He comes off putts instead of staying thru the swing and the result is an inconsistent roll. It has to be a confidence issue and I assume difficult to overcome.

Uhhh, you do know that half the top 10 got their start on the European Tour (Euros) and most still split their time between the two tours including McIlroy, Schwartzel, Grace, Lowrey, and Scott. Day and Smith started out in Asia. That's 7 of Top 9 and ties.

Gotta love how people twist things to try to prove someone is wrong.

DJ was the second best player on the planet this weekend, is making millions, and has a ridiculously hot wife.

I can't feel too badly for him.

No need to twist anything - you said "Euros" and I guarantee you 99% of people would assume you meant Europeans, not people who put in some time on the Euro tour. None of the top 8 are European. Also, not sure your original point is particularly valid. I think Europeans and other international players have just gotten a lot better. Europeans have won 4 of the last 6 US Opens and they were played on "perfectly manicured country club" courses, meaning, to me, it's the players, not the courses.

The players complaining are losers. As Jack said, when he heard players complaining about the course, they were the guys he knew wouldn't win.
