OT: Link to MLAX RU/Army Sat. at 2:30

If the defense can step it up I think the offense has a lot of weapons.

St. John's got rolled over. Army will be a bigger test. If we can play offense like that against Army, that will be statement game. This squad goes deep on offense, that's for sure. Our starting attack is legit, along with 6 plus middies, a few of whom can drop down to attack, who can do damage themselves. If Schoen can keep winning faceoffs at this clip, that is going to offer a lot of opportunites. Strong goalie play will continue to help fuel transition, which was very, very impressive last weekend. They played the game how it was meant to be played.

Tomorrow is going to be interesting.

If they jump on groundballs like they did against SJU, it should be a fun afternoon.

Unfortunately, I will be at the basketball game... they should put it up on the screen so we can watch something competitive in the second half.

Up 6-3 at half.... Didnt start watching till 8 left in 1/2 as was watching Loyola(who I played for back in the 70's) beat Hopkins 9-8. From what I have seen RU looks good so far.

RU up 6-3 at the half. Playing well. Our goalie has been lights out, and groundballs gotta be in our favor.

If we could finish a little better, we'd be up by at least 2 or 3 more. Faceoffs need a little work, but our D is stepping up behind great goalie play.

Let's hope it keeps up.

Just took a peek.. 8 and change left in the 3rd

Nice save!

Our Middie and Long pole D seem like they are all over these guys! Very cool!

What's up with faceoffs? Its been a while since we've won one. How many guys do we have that are competent with faceoffs?

Faceoffs are killing us and the D has to tighen up.

We have 2 faceoff guys.

Why do people rush to post this on the football board instead of the lacrosse board?

All it usually does is jinx the team!
If anybody's the "mush" here, it's certainly not the guys who have posted in the thread so far.

Just sayin...

D stepped up in last 3 min killing penalty and hanging on for win 13/11

Great win. Lots to work on, including man down D and faceoffs, but the kids showed a lot of heart after Army came back and tied it. Goalie play and transition O was good today.

Happy for the guys. 2-0. Army was no joke. They handled UMass pretty easily, who in turn handled #11 Ohio St. easily today, though I thought OSU looked overrated when I saw them last week.

This team is fun to watch. Talent a heart is a good combo.

Great win against a team on the border of being ranked in Top 20. Need to work more on winning faceoffs, but otherwise pretty solid!

I'm a Hound as well....just attended Loyola, didn't play. Nice win over Hopkins today....always good to say that. I graduated in '99.

Nice to watch an offense that can score on every possession. D and f/o need work. Nice penalty kill at the end. Good win.

Our offense is a legit offense. Defense needs work but the offense has multiple players who can score.

Hmmm...

a valid up tempo O we are told the kids want + above average G play with just a few things to work on...without the B1G $$$ yet.

I'm liking the future.

You said the same last week. Looks like my jinx is a win. And this thread was started Friday. And who cares besides you?

- GREAT win

- hasn't Army always been a very good F/O team?

Definitely no more than us. Through the years we have always had some great face off guys. Hopefully the kids can keep developing. This team is very young too, yet has some experience.

lots of room to improve, which is exciting to see while winning.

Who are you to tell people where to post? Give it a rest!
Did the same thing with the RU-Miami baseball thread yesterday. Don't understand why it bugs him so much. Better to just let it go because it appears he won't.
It was that same mentality which led him to fanatically and obsessively rate threads, and now has him frenetically trying to hijack RU#'s weather threads. Just a sick, twisted mind.

The best was when he started a thread last week, about a topic already begun by Knight-Shift, then when I jokingly called him out on it, he literally tried to attempt to defend himself!!!!

Don't forget when he started bumping up months-old threads for no apparent reason.

Then there was the gratuitous bumping of his own threads when no one was responding to them.

As I said, sick and twisted.

Tremendous win. Army is a nemesis for Rutgers lacrosse through the years.
Interesting "face-off" note ... Denver University's Trevor Baptiste, a Denville, NJ native (Morristown-Beard School), was the 2015 NCAA face-off statistical leader. I like that Coach Brecht has gone out of the metro area for talent. When we have sustained winning, more of the best NJ players will land at Rutgers.

Meh, lax is one sport where we don't need NJ players. It would be nice to land the top players of course but outside of that the surrounding areas of LI, Westchester, CNY, MD, CT & PA are loaded with HS lax talent.

I watched the game...stumbled on the link posted above..GREAT feed...

We have a good blend of NY...NJ players....
the FR kid from Ontario is amazing Charalambedes 4goals 1 asst..in 2 games he has 10 goals(I think)
a kid from Utah also scored Frankowiak LOL

This team seems to know how to finish
and the SO goalie Edelman can set up a fast break like lightening..amazing kid !

I believe this will be our best team in a decade.....very few Srs.....LOTS of Fr/Sophs

He sets up the fast break so well. The midfielders start sprinting to midfield the second Edelman makes a save and he gets the ball out of his stick very fast.

We are getting some players from NJ. Family can speak more to it, but the recruiting of NJ seems to be on the uptick. I know there are some verbals from good kids, and when I look on the field, I see Jersey kids making plays.

I love seeing a balanced roster though. You need that to win big, and when I look at our team right now, I am seeing production from Jersey kids, and I am seeing it from kids outside of there too.

Lacrosse has spread so much now, especially out west, that the amount of talent is starting to exceed places for it to go as the college game isn't picking it up nearly as quickly. Take the long pole Pless and the two middies from Utah. Those kids can play. Sikora is from NC and is a stud. Players come from everywhere now.

The only issue is we must increase the scholarship level to out of state rates. It may have been addressed but I'm not certain.

Definitely the key to the way Coach Brecht wants to play. You must be able to make saves and ignite the break. It makes the game so much more fun to play and watch. I promise recruits see that and perk up.

I watch some of these other teams and it is so boring. They don't even try to get fast breaks, which really, should be the object every time you make a save. They'd rather walk to ball up the field and pass it around for 2 minutes. Yuck.

And as time goes by they will come from places in NJ where some people will go..huh?

And it's only getting better. * Still, there will be room and they'll be welcomed, if they're good enough. ;)

It is has become the "soccer" of our youth.

Once a boy gets exposed to the sport I don't know many who don't love it right away.

* How do we fix that?

Shot clock. The game needs a shot clock. A real one, not some arbitrary timing that the ref decides upon.

I'd say 90 seconds from the time you get possession. That will allow slow teams to work offense, but not completely sit on the ball.

That would be the most effective, immediate way. It won't happen, but the sticks are so good now that the ball never gets dislodged, leading to more unsettled situations. Changing those would help, but it won't happen.

A clock would help push the game in direction it used to be. Fast.

I meant by "soccer" that it is exploding like soccer did when some of us were kids.

Not the pace. LOL

And my * question was how does the OOS scholarship money get addressed?

But I do like your clock idea. MLL uses one now.

Ah, sorry.

Donations and increased budgets through increased revenue I would think. It is job 1 to be done.

We may also look to create a relationship with the Native American community. Syracuse for example offers full academic scholarships to any who can get in, which also happens to produce a number of great lacrosse players. Would be a good PC move while helping solve a problem.
