Its about wording and he isnt making the wording right and of course the media is not accurately portraying what he and DOGE support. Its a two fold thing..end the time change and switch to permanent daylight savings time. Rubio had already introduced a bill and DOGE supports the end of the time change. I get there is confusion on this because of wording

the country is not going to give up an hour of daylight at night in the summer so it can be light at 430am

This PNS for the NWS-Philly looks pretty final...haven't seen one yet from the NWS-NYC; the 2.6" in Metuchen at 6 am is my report from 5:30 am. Spots in Sussex, Warren, Hunterdon and Morris all reporting over 5" of snow ftw. 2-4" in general for the rest of NNJ/CNJ/EPA and even 1-2" for northern parts of SNJ and the coast.

Not really, although I've always been flattered when you ask. I have two young kids, two businesses, and am home hunting. But really I kind've fell out of interest of forecasting. I'm 40. When I was growing up and there were only a few forecast sources, it was kind've mystical. Now the freely available products are so robust and available, a lot of the nuance and skill has been distilled for public consumption. You've been around this game long enough to know how powerful a Kuchera method product would have been 20 years ago. Or the snow depth change maps. There are so many forecasters for so many outlets that differentiating yourself is somewhat impossible. Snowfall maps these days when it comes to the game day snowfall forecast, which were my bread and butter 10 years ago are now herded by these two factors- everyone has access to the same products, and there are so many forecasts that there's a consensus bias. The real skill now is med to long range. That was never my interest. I was always most passionate about the gameday, and by and large that equation has been solved. That's why News12 isn't afraid to replace James Gregorio with the babies they trot out now. Babies can climb the learning curve so damn fast these days.

Even with this storm, the difference between C-2 and 2-4 falling only overnight when everyone is asleep is academic, and so subtle that its more likely luck or personal bias if a forecaster typically winds up on the higher end or lower end of consensus.

So between new demands for my attention, feeling guilty if I didn't publish forecasts to my email list for piddly events, and the feeling that my expertise isn't really needed any longer, I've phased myself out mentally/emotionally. Sure did love waking up to 2 and change in Readington this morning all the same!

For those who prefer simple to digest snowfall maps over dozens of lines of text listing snowfall amounts, here you go. Map looks pretty accurate and clearly shows how much of an overperformer this storm was relative to the snowfall forecast from 7 am Friday morning, just a few hours before the start of the storm, as most locations in NEPA, NNJ, CNJ and SENY/NYC got 1-2" more than forecast.

And definitely not worth a new thread, but we could get another dusting/coating (~1/4) of snow on Tuesday morning for areas between about 276/195 and 78 and maybe 1/4"-3/4" along and N of 78, i.e., nothing to impact driving, but nice mood flakes for Christmas Eve and 1/4" or more would also make it more likely the snow on the ground now will last into Christmas morning. It's also quite possible we just see some flakes with no accumulation (as some models show).

Good luck, that's a lot to juggle. I remember those days, lol. So I get having to cut back on things a bit. For me, the biggest thing I cut back on in my 40s and 50s was probably playing golf (3-4x a week killed a lot of time). I was "this close" to majoring in meteorology and I sometimes have a few pangs of regret that I didn't, but I liked what I did at Merck and still got to indulge my hobby, especially once so much info became available on the web. Damn shame they cut Gregorio - he was very good.
