OT: Nebraska Spring Game

Not much else going on in the area.
80,000 people who aren't just there but who paid to be there. Tickets sold out in 24 hours.
You guys act like people outside the coasts sit on their front porch whittling away on a stick waiting for football. Pretty narrow view. I'm pretty sure these folks have just as interesting and fulfilling lives as people here.
And here is your other choice to spend an afternoon in Nebraska.
Also not much population. For every claim of nothing to do you fail to factor in the lack of population.
This year The College World Series AND the Big 10 Conference Baseball Tourney both played at the same stadium in Omaha. Top 8 of 13 teams (Wisconsin doesn't play baseball) make the Big10 Conference Tourney. RU has never qualified. This year they have a chance, but I'm guessing probably not.
The College World Series is always held in Omaha, the Big10 Conference Tourney moves around, last year it was on campus in Bloomington, Indiana.

Nebraska has less than 80,000 people in the entire state? Gee who knew all their fans fly into games. I think you seriously underestimate the lack of live sports viewing options in Nebraska. Outside of University of Nebraska sports you have one professional team, the Triple A Omaha Golden Spikes and that's the whole enchilada . Want to know the most popular spectator sport in Nebraska? It's college football, chief and that's a polled fact.

Wrong - they live in hell. You can either see a movie or watch Nebraska football. No other options.

I dated a Nebraska girl my Jr year out that way. Love those country girls. Eventually she realized she could do better and I was history lol.
look........ it is the only show in town....... it's like every Giants/Jets pre-season, and Mets/Yankee Grapefruit league game rolled into one...... there are people who can't get regular season tickets... that only can get to the spring game.........

Passed through. Kearney, NE, actually. Yeah, there's a certain magic to those country girls that you just don't find in this part of the world. "Eager to please" is the phrase that comes to mind.
Buffalo County NE. Tons of center pivot irrigation systems. Really cool to look at from the air.

I don't think it is demeaning any of the states when they say that there is not nearly as many things to do as the East and West coasts. But, the reason you see so many fans is more that they connect the school to the state and they really do have a lot of pride in both. New Jerseyians just don't have that kind of pride.
I taught in Jersey for close to 30 years and NEVER heard the kids talk about the state or Rutgers with the kind of passion you seem to have with Nebraska, Oklahoma,etc. And, with only pockets of significant populations in these states, you just don't have all that many different options that we just take for granted.

Even though the cities you mentioned are within reasonable distance, they are really in different spheres. That's like saying Philly and NYC are the same:flushed:
Could be, but that's not the reason they had 80,000. They draw this well all the time for the spring game. Season tickets are a hard commodity to come by. There's just not many live sports options there. A poll of residents revealed that college football is their #1 viewing choice of all sports. Do that same poll in the Northeast and college football probably comes in 4th after the pro sports. I doubt 5th as pro hockey would probably take that spot.

Yes. And I'm sure they'd rather be dealing with NJ traffic and spending their time figuring out how to pay their outrageous taxes.
I don't know if I'd call it impressive. Why would 80,000 people pay to show up to what is really just a glorified practice? Is there some other attraction or incentive at Nebraska to attract fans, other than to sit in a stadium to cheer the offense vs defense?
