What exactly does "speak truth to power" mean? One of those phrases that sounds profound, but really means nothing.

Horrible phrases from sports:

lower/upper body injury

good/bad/respect for the game

soft verbal

contract year

Articulate. It means that the player that was just interviewed is black.

Epic. Skiers, snowboarders, skateboarders, surfers say that anything that is enjoyable is epic.

Ironic. Most of the time when someone says that something is ironic, it isn't.

Bam! I don't know where this started. Emeril? But I now see it if someone has something go their way. "I just won that bet. Bam!"

Here is one I hate that started popping up in commercials the last few years - "Reimagined". I guess that is the replacement for "new and improved" (which happens to be an oxymoron).

I knew some people would have similar gripes, but this thread has taken off - I agree with an earlier poster , wish we could just grunt to each other

This thread Is awesome.......

My girlfriend used the word coward to describe me when I spit in her face. I was thinking why would you use the word coward when in reality that would make me a POS, douche, a$$hole, d1ck etc.

Every show seemed to push, "you won't believe the twist at the end!" for a while. Made me just not want to watch until the last 3 minutes.

And batts, Old-timers isn't as bad as, "he is ___ years young."

Never heard "versing" before this thread. I've been out of the country a long time! (The only Mets I recognised were Wright and Granderson, who btw, is really articulate. That guy has announcer written all over him!)

People who say "whipped it out" did you whip your penis until it came out of your pants? Just say took it out

I can top that with great pleasure: "He couldn't [make that free throw, make that catch, etc.]." Yes he could, he simply didn't.

Here's a phrase that we see too often on the ESPNU ticker..."also received offers from Boston College, Illinois, ODU, Rutgers"

I HATE "All's I know

Lose the S genius! ....." All " is already plural..

And I hate "lunch meat"...just rubs me the wrong way..
cold cuts or bust!!

To the poster that first mentioned, "No worries" absolutely true. After spending a couple of weeks in Adelaide and Melbourne last year that phrase is probably used as often as, "Ga'day mate".

Some pet peeves:
  • I don't have the "bandwith" to handle that additional task
  • "My bad"
  • "With all due respect"

I'm not gonna comment on anything said above; I'm just gonna leave it to Weird Al:

Damn, that one hit me right in the feels. We're gonna need Congress to put an end to this sort of speech.

Can stand when people use "learning" as a noun instead of a verb as in "Key Learnings". Learn to speak the language first asshole.

trickeration -- and ESPN favorite.

bandwidth at work- "Do you have any bandwidth.?"-yeah man, I just ran Speedtest . . .

Kardashian - when will we hear or see the last one?

Tweet- F_ you.
