OT: New RU President By April 25

Reactions: RU at the shore
Good article, but I really take exception to this:

Barchi directed the medical school merger, brought the university into the Big Ten

Bullshit. He started in April of 2012, the announcement of our entrance occurred in November, so it was well underway before he came upon the scene. Besides, his sole focus when he initially came in was merging the medical school into the university.

Going by this article and my memory I'd say you hit the nail on the head
>According to Delany, talks between Rutgers and the Big Ten have been ongoing for three to four years, and the league's addition of the Penn St. Nittany Lions in '93 helped begin the process of moving to the Mid-Atlantic.<

Good article except one line, "not a safety school anymore".

Before the early 1970's RU College was not a safety school. I will admit it lost its prestige for a while but some people seem to forget the long history of RU..

“After more than 20 years teaching at Rutgers and 13 years as a senior administrator, I believe this is not the time for parochial thinking or narrow vision.

Rutgers is bigger, badder and bolder than the other public institutions in New Jersey. Its peers are Penn State, Wisconsin and Ohio State. It aspires to compete with Michigan, the University of Virginia and the University of North Carolina.”

Damn right!

Glad to hear most of this is being done behind closed doors and there haven’t been any leaks as of yet. Hoping politicians are kept at an arms length.
Or politicians' involvement is why it is behind closed doors.... I guess we shall see.

The merger is still a damn good legacy.

You aren’t keeping NJ pols at arms length. They are the arm.
Yea there was a level of sarcasm in my post. I know all too well politics and politicians in NJ.
My post was more to the amazement some idiot politician hasn’t openly politicized the process at this point.
