OT: Star Ledger ending Print Edition This Weekend

Politi is pure 100% crap.
That makes him a legend and why another one endorses him
Cracking Up Lol GIF

I never wrote or stated I considered him one .

Are you trolling or just a dolt?
just telling it like it is and just replying with the proof.
If that offends you , then so be it.
Also just ribbing you in fun.

Now that I know you don't like a little fun aimed at you , I'll stop so I don't ruffle your feathers .

I like fun ! I am loads of fun !!

It never surprises me how callous people can be cheering on people losing their jobs. One of my best friends in the world and his brother, who have been working at the SL for 40+ years on the production side of things, lost their jobs.
Yeah, but they were printing unflattering things about my sports team. 😉

A sad sign of the time we're living in.
I remember the days of reading the NSL in the AM and the Newark Evening News in the PM.

There was also the Plainfield Courier and the Elizabeth Daily Journal for HS sports

The good old ( old) days 😉

All good luck to your friend & his brother, but there's a lesson in there. If you make it to 40 years with a company (40 years!) and the company starts sputtering and stalling, it's time to retire and go out on your own terms. I'm sure they were fully vested. Even having "the time" but not "the years" you can't sit around and wait for the ship to slip below the surface of the ocean and wet your ankles. Get out and do something else.

And another thing, I'm gonna hold my breath, refuse to take my nap and not
eat my peas until NJ.com hires rutgersal to be its Rutgers football beat writer.

I imagine they were about 20 -30 years plus into their careers there when they started seeing that the writing was on the wall . Even then it’s not so easy to reinvent yourself and change careers at that stage of the game. They must have survived many layoffs and buyouts if they were there that long. My guess and hope is they were just hanging on to the end and retirement.

As Danny DeVito said in Other People's Money:

You know, at one time, there must've been dozens of companies making buggy whips. And I'll bet the last company around was the one that made the best god-damn buggy whip you ever saw. Now how would you have liked to have been a stockholder in that company?

Good F'ing riddance to sports section of the state rag. Too bad Margolin and Sherman didn't get pink slipped with it at the end and escaped elsewhere.

Imagine what RU athletics would be like today if they and Zoffinger didn't force Bob M out? I'd bet that Schiano would have stayed longer first go around and we would have made a BCS bowl in the 2010's. Maybe CVS would have made another final four? Mike Rice never would have been hired for BBall. Ash would have never set the football program back. Julie would have never been hired.... The list goes on and on.

Its sad to see people loose their jobs, however print media has been a dying industry for over a decade now. Hopefully those who were good employees there find new careers quickly.

The ledger writers and editors honestly has been the biggest speed bump in history to the RU athletics department. Now that its gone, maybe just maybe the growth will continue and be portrayed in better spot lights. As much as Tom Luicci and Steve Politi were/are pains in the rear when it comes to RU reporting and had an extremely critical slant of RU they did cover RU more in depth than any other reporter at the ledger ever was able to. It's just unfortunate that hack jobs such as Margolin and Sherman and others there were out to ruin RU (maybe a reaction to them being left on the bench in organized sports as kids, one will never know). In the words of the band Steam "Na na na na, na na na na, hey hey-ey, goodbye"

The biggest issue with the newspapers folding is I don’t have much left to line the birdcage with or use to start a fire…

It makes sense though - everything is digital/electronic. It’s like pulling teeth to get my kids to print out a paper/text to read and edit/highlight.
Funny you mention to start a fire. I still have a small pile used to start them and they suck at that as well.

People arent cheering the loss of jobs held by good, honest people. They are cheering the end (in print form) of a product that became progressively worse, more expensive and willingly disparaged Rutgers. When Kevin Manahan openly mocked Rutgers, I called that day and cancelled my longstanding subscription. I'm sorry for your friend, unless it's Manahan.

All the people in this thread who hate the Star Ledger - you do realize it is only ending the print edition, the online version still exists.
yes, and even though I don't like the Ledger I don't like seeing newspapers dropping print editions and becoming online only.
This is a situation of getting your cake but not enjoying eating it, because little by little the print media is disappearing and that trend lessens the information highway we use to find out what's going on .
At one time drinking a cup of joe and reading the newspaper was the morning routine .
Now that art of the American lifestyle is ending and eyes on computer with your coffee has replaced that for most people.
Also ,as it was pointed out ,many people are losing their jobs with this move and most of them didn't have a thing to do with the way Rutgers was covered by the Star Ledger
So I take no real pleasure from the print editions demise and know the online coverage will probably still offend me.
So you won't catch me jumping for joy now, but would have in the days Josh and Ted were trashing Rutgers and making people think Rutgers was a rogue program

I believe they're ending SLEB though. Moran is gone as are a few others.

He had at least 5-10 years of warning that this would happen. Could have easily moved to a more stable job.

Nobody reads online newspapers. Just news websites, which are very different.
