Cole with the 1 hitter, but he had to work for it.I can go to bed thankfully

Good to see Angel Hernandez is in mid-season form blowing calls behind the plate. Of course he's not one of the umps who opts out of the season.
Was it a bad call by ump or wrong placement of box on TV? Before putting 100% blame on the ump you need to see the overhead shot that YES Network uses often. So many times that box is off as the cameras are not directly behind the pitcher. Was at dinner, and only saw the 5th and 6th. Hernandez gave Cole at least two called strikes in the Nat 5th that were off the plate. The TV strike zone has been embarrassing umps for a while now. Time for an automatic ump to call balls and strikes, while the human home plate ump is there to call foul balls, balks, plays at the plate, etc.
As I mentioned in another thread, this is fine for a short 60-game season, but not for a normal 162-game season. Hell no!MLB announcement on expanded playoffs:

Imagine what will happen when Cole is really locked in!
Scherzer was an interesting case last night. He was overpowering with the strikeouts, but it seemed like he made a few too many mistakes and every single one was hit.
The Yankees may strike out a lot against good pitching, but they also know how to work counts and make them pay on mistakes. Yesterday was a perfect example.Saw a stat that said he threw something like 60% sliders yesterday when he usually throws 70% fastballs. Had to change his approach to face the Yankee lineup, forced to throw a lot of pitches.
After watching Gleyber at shortstop today I'm more sure than ever that the Yankees should have kept Didi.Didi goes YARD for the Phillies! Not a cheapie either!
They were talking about it opening night for the Phillies about Didi replacing a legend in Jeter and he didn't skip a beat in fielding, hitting and leadership in the clubhouse. After watching Gleyber at shortstop today I'm more sure than ever that the Yankees should have kept Didi.

Not because if Didi or Joe. That bullpen is brutal.I thought this was the Yankees thread.
Yanks win while Didi's squad blew a 4-run lead and lost 11-6.
Gleyber could have had those 3 hits playing 2nd base. And Gleyber had 3 hits a HR 2 rbi.

Didi belongs in a Yankees uniform playing shortstop. I was always much more confident with him out there
Not so much with Gleyber.
Verlander done for the season.
That's what I was thinking.I wouldn’t mind DiDi at ss Gleyber at 2nd and DJ at 1st.
That remains to be seen, at least I won't have to wait 162 games to see them soil the mattress.:). The Mets will be fine, remember in a short series,or now a short season, pitching rules!!!
Porcello - what a steal! That remains to be seen, at least I won't have to wait 162 games to see them soil the mattress.:). The Mets will be fine, remember in a short series,or now a short season, pitching rules!!!
Saw lots of him with the Bosux and Stroman with the Bluejays. Good luck.Porcello - what a steal!
He was coming off a long injury last. He is far from done and has always been an above average fielder with very good range. He is only 30. Great start to his season with 2 bombs already.Didi doesn't have much left, or at least he didn't show it last year. He was a below average hitter and average at best fielder, you can't keep everyone and I'd rather move Gleyber to SS and resign LeMahieu than keep Didi and lose DJ.
Depends upon how he responds to rest and if he has an elbow problem that caused it. IF he did have to get TJ surgery, it's possible his career is over as he would be close to 39 when he comes back.Verlander done for the season.
I don't think anybody wouldn't love to have a healthy Didi back on this team. It was all because of payroll. He was coming off a long injury last. He is far from done and has always been an above average fielder with very good range. He is only 30. Great start to his season with 2 bombs already.
Great player. Great in the clubhouse. From an offense standpoint will the Yanks miss him, no. From defense and leadership. His is tough to replace.I don't think anybody wouldn't love to have a healthy Didi back on this team. It was all because of payroll.
Besides the defense, it comes down to who you'd rather have in the lineup...Didi or Luke Voit.Great player. Great in the clubhouse. From an offense standpoint will the Yanks miss him, no. From defense and leadership. His is tough to replace.

With the Yankees it should never be about money.
Huh?? He was an everyday player last year. Odd man out is Luke Voit not DJ.Agreed, but would DJ want to stay after this year if he's only going to be a super utility player? It think I'd rather keep DJ and lose Didi than the other way around.

He was playing everyday before all the injuries. It was apparent from the start he had serious talent outside of Coors Field. Yes he would move permanently to 1st as his defense is great at all positions. Why wouldn't he? Have you ever heard him complain? He was an everyday play because the yankees set a record for injuries. That being said would he even want to move to first? I just think they were looking 2-3 years down the road and decided that this was the better way to go.
