OT: New York Yankees 2020 season

You really have nothing huh? This is all you have when it comes to baseball and it’s sad. You actually hate the Yankees more than you like the Mets. I’m being 100% serious when I say I actually feel sorry for you.

Oh and Judge played a full season in 2017 ya moron.

He's a one trick pony. Obsessed with the Yankees.

Lol, You never miss an opportunity do you? Obsessed,by the way, who have you been pissing off lately, and put you on block? The insanity of it all,:Poop

There's a reason a number of people here continue to call you out for your nonsense. Perhaps one day you'll be able to find a clue that there's so much more to life than obsessive Yankee hating.

Ps....always cool when a 60 year old man acts like a 12 year old and discovers / uses the poo emoji.

Let’s try and figure out the 30-man roster to start the season.

Estrada and King were told today that they made the team so let’s give it a shot.

Here are the guys that are definitely 100% making the opening day 30 man:

2B LeMahieu
RF Judge
SS Torres
DH Stanton
CF Hicks
C Sanchez
1B Voit
LF Gardner
3B Urshela

C Higashioka
IF/OF Estrada

SP Cole
SP Paxton
SP Happ
SP Montgomery

RP Britton
RP Ottavino
RP Kahnle
RP Green
RP Loaisiga
RP King

So that’s 21 guys.

Likely to make the team:

Wade, Andujar, Ford, Tauchman

That’s 25 and I think the rest will be pitchers.

So Judge has a very unusual HR last night. Gets to bat after 3 outs so the Phillies can get Velasquez to 75 pitches. Judge crushes it. Didn't know if he had to run the bases or not. As bizzar as it was it did make sense.

So it looks like the Yankees are going to use offdays early in the season to manipulate the roster. They won’t need Monty until the second week of the season.

So it will be Cole game 1, Paxton game 2, Bullpen game 3, Happ game 4 to open the season.

Is it just me or does everyone kind of hate the bullpen starting games?

I don’t hate it but I also don’t think it’s necessary. Because of the off days they won’t need a 5th starter for awhile so why don’t they just use Montgomery instead of doing the bullpen game the first time around? Beats me.

That would be 65, thank you very

That would be 65, retired 5 years and loving life. I so do enjoy getting the goat of a fan base that still thinks The Core 4 and The Mick are coming out of the tunnel, and teams are quaking in their boots.

That is what gets me...why at this point. Plus, the Yankees can pretty much put out a starting 5 that is from top to bottom from a possible Cy winner to good, solid and good for a 5th starter that compares to anyone. Bullpen start in game 3 for a 60 game season...just kind of gnaws at me.
It may even be good strategy but there are times I would rather be entertained and enjoy instead of just going by the new numbers. It is the way I feel when people talk about Rutgers going with a wishbone type offense.

Very surprised Monty isn't on the roster to begin the year. Is this really baseball decision or a service time deal. Is Monty near a magic # in service time? I have no clue but when I read he isn't starting the season that was my thought. If so completely stupid.

Montgomery has over 2 years of service time so I don't think it's service time manipulation. The clock has started. I just think it's the over-reliance on analytics and whatever that says the bullpen works in this situation. I would use 5 starters just to keep the bullpen fresher but what do I know?

It’s more roster manipulation than service time manipulation. They won’t need him until like the 6th game so they’ll have an extra reliever until they need to add him for his start.

It's not based on years but based on days. Again have no idea what his number is. However it seems odd.

Seems more like the old days are gone where you earn your spot. There is no need for him until they need him to start. Which, is most likely after the BP starting game. So bring him back right before they need him

I was using Cot's website where he has an accurate account of service time. His days are the equivalent of 2.157 years or something like that.

And what are the important numbers these days?
Not sure about the Covid effect, but here's some important numbers:

26 man roster inclusion starts service time. Each day on the big league roster counts as a day of service time.

Glossary / Transactions / Service Time
Service Time
Definition

Players receive Major League service time for each day spent on the 26-man roster (it was 25, prior to 2020) or the Major League injured list. Important to players and clubs alike, service time is used to determine when players are eligible for arbitration as well as free agency.

Each Major League regular season consists of 187 days (typically 183 days prior to 2018), and each day spent on the active roster or injured list earns a player one day of service time. Under the 2017-21 Collective Bargaining Agreement, any player who violates the drug program will no longer receive Major League Service during his suspension, unless his suspension is reduced by 20 or more games under the mitigation provision of the program.

A player is deemed to have reached "one year" of Major League service upon accruing 172 days, whether in a single year or accumulated across multiple years. Though a typical regular season lasts 183 days, the most a player can accumulate in one year is 172 days. You don't have to get those 172 days all in one year to get to 1.000 years of service time, it can be across multiple.

Upon reaching six years of Major League service, a player becomes eligible for free agency at the end of that season (unless he has already signed a contract extension that covers one or more of his free-agent seasons).

The new Texas Ranger stadium is very cool. Very specific demensions based on former players and coaches of the previous two stadiums. Seating is very close to the field between foul pools.

Giants manager kneeled tonight?

Selfish primadonas, why do they think we care about their personal beliefs?
They may think they are right but it's only their opinion.

Do doctors, lawyers, car salesmen, electricians, accountants, etc make a spectacle and kneel when they come on to the job?

The pro athletes kneeling only further divides the country.

Keep your personal opinions and politics out of sports.
Sports has always been political. It quite literally has never not been.

Thanks. I'll look at Monty's numbers tomorrow. Forgot about the 172 number but so many young players don't get called up to start the season for those reasons specifically. Don't know if it affects Monty. Just seems a weird choice for a guy they are counting on.

Britton the closer until Chapman returns from corona. Probably next week.

ARod is god awful as the other announcer with Buster Olney. What was ESPN thinking?

Judge looks great. 2 at bats, 2 hits, a run and an RBI.

Stanton with another ribbie. 4-1 yankees winning. Stanton looks thinner with a faster bat.

Wowza, hurry up with this game before it rains harder, and that lightening looked like here last night.

Game now official w 5 innings in if they can't finish. PS- I watched our WBB vs NC St today on BTN from 2017. Forgot how good Scaife was, and she plays so much like Guirantes, a shorter Guirante. KK and Giles got a lot of playing time as youngsters, and Wallace was a lot bigger back then. Stasha Carey was a gem for Viv and RU, she still hasn't been replaced. Hopefully this year.
