OT: NJ Devils 2024-2025 Thread

Look into those shots, points and goals. The ones vs rangers were mostly breakaways from cherry picking/floating. Hes a non-factor when the games get heavy, he shies away from all contact

A shot is a shot, a goal is a goal, a point is a point.

We know he’s not a physical player - no need to keep harping on it unless you have a serious issue with the kid. Again, very weird post

That would be the job of someone trying to discredit Hughes in a debate.

I will say he is definitely shying away from contact in this tourney. He was doing this a ton early in the NHL reg season coming back from shoulder surgery but has engaged more as the season went on. It is more obvious in the 4 nations thus far, but and this is what is really important here, he's still highly effective.

Vs the Rag's in the playoffs 2 seasons ago there really was no sign of this. In fact he did lay at least one pretty big hit in that series. I'd say he was more then highly effective in that series, he was dominant. But he hurt the shoulder vs Carolina and wasn't nearly as effective afterwards. Still had 3 goals and 6 points in 5 games.

There’s this American born player who wore #88 for the blackhawks . Small in stature and not physical at all. He had no problem helping his team win 3 Stanley cups and a conn smythe. I’m not worried about jacks physical game bc it’s not his game . Scoring and play making is .

The last thing on my mind after watching that great USA game last night was to go to rags board and go trolling . I guess that’s where the high noons you were drinking kicked in KYK

So did Gretzky, Mario, Kane, Leech, I could name over a 100 great players who shied away from all contact. You're one of the most stupid people when it comes to hockey and let's not forget last year during the playoffs you claimed Lafreniere was going to be a superstar this year lol.

They also got in tight and battled for pucks. Jack doesnt. He was completely un noticeable last night

Jack is electrifying and tough as nails, he doesn’t back down from anyone.
He’s every bit as fast as McDavid and McKinnon.
Sullivan didn’t play him 18 minutes for no reason, he’s a threat every time he’s on the ice
As a Devils fan I do admit he avoids certain situations, namely being in tight between the boards and a defensemen, especially at speed.

But it's not because he isn't a competitor. It's because he's been hurt 3 different times going into those situations. Maybe over time as he strengthens his shoulder so as to be less vulnerable he begins going back into those situations but right now he doesn't and imo it's a smart decision.

And he has learned ways to win the puck despite giving up that inside position. So it hasn't been a serious drag on his performance.

True, (granted I've seen very very little of Lafleur and really not even all that much of Gretzky) but yeah non physical yet dominant players.

Wonder how much PK those guys played in their careers. A roll Hughes has excelled in of late.

Yes. His only problem is trying to be to fancy with the puck & too nonchalant at times. None of that stuff in this tourney. No time. Good lesson for him.
