OT: NJ Devils 2024-2025 Thread

Well earned point tonight. Took 5/6 points from FLA this year. If only they could figure out the GD skills competition. They’ve won 29 of 96 shootouts since the start of the 2012-13 season.

I was just going to say I can't remember the last time NJ has won a shootout. Luckily we'd avoided them so far this year.

It's unbelievable how bad they've been in shootouts for over a decade. Especially considering that they were 59-33 in shootouts in the from 2005-06 through 2011-12. The likes of Elias, Parise and Kovalchuk helped there, no doubt. Thankfully, the 3v3 OT has mitigated the number of shootouts we've been exposed to. But man, it's painful.

On the subject of 3v3 OT, this is the ONE area where I feel the Devils have regressed under Keefe a bit. The last few years, I always felt their firepower would take over at 3v3 and we'd come away with the 2nd point. This year, they just look disorganized and aren't nearly as assertive with the puck.

Yeah 3 on 3 we ought to be able to turn a team like Florida into spaghetti given they have like 1 maybe 2 guys who can actually skate in space. But to a certain extent anything can happen in that short time.

I'm going to my first game in a couple years Saturday, and bringing my son to his first ever game. Hoping for a solid showing against the Flyers.
My very first ever Devils game was during the inaugural season at Brendan Byrne.

It was against the Rangers and the Devils won.

My late Dad was never really a hockey guy, even after his grandsons (my boys) played in HS and college. But he was a big NJ guy. So he was very happy we had something to
call our own.

Loser points are getting old.

This team needs to not let up as soon as they get up a goal, come on build the lead.

Probably fortunate to get a point last night given they got caved in the entire 3rd period. Something has to give with the bottom 6 forwards. They are just giving nothing.
  • Haula: 0 points in last 17 games (injured since 1/4)
  • Lazar: 1 goal, 1 assist in 22 games all season
  • Tatar: 1 assist in last 17 games
  • Bastian: 1 assist in last 17 games
  • Cotter: 3 goals, 1 assist in last 27 games
  • MacDermid/Bowers/Legare/Dowling/Hardman/Foote: 2 goals, 1 assist in 58 total games
That's 11 points from the bottom 6 in basically 20% of the whole season. That's more than just a bad stretch. Some of it is circumstantial - they were banking on recapturing the magic with Hischier and Tatar, but Tatar is borderline unplayable. So Noesen has been forced into the top-6. I like Cotter's overall game a lot, but his early scoring completely dried up. We're in year 6 of Nate Bastian and he offers nothing.

Fitz needs to and will shake this all up.

Hughes in Latin means turnover

Luke horrible pass at blue line leads to flyers breakaway goal

Devils all over flyers for 90 secs in zone . Jack hops on ice and immediately turns puck over for breakaway . Penalty taken on breakaway Flyers score on power play.

Super talented players who try to windmill dunk every lay up

Did Fitzy learn anything from last year? If he did he will find a trade before March.

I would love to know what destroyed the Devils over the Christmas Break.

Jack once again too casual & careless with the puck.

I think as I said earlier this thread..all teams that aren’t elite go thru a stretch like this…look at the rangers. Left for dead a month ago.

Hopefully we snap out of this soon.

Yes even Cup winners, but right now we are still golden. If Fitzy waits like last year that might not be the case and Nemec might go public and demand a trade, cutting down our return. Never forget John McClain doing that and being traded for only a washed up Doug Bodger. The iron is hot now.

I’m fine trading Nemec if the return is right. He’s already b***ing about his place in the organization..let’s see what we can get for him

Much rather have Casey stay, and our future d core seems set.

Right on, just recently we have been linked to J.T. Miller, Ryan O'Reilly, and Simon Wright with Nemec leading the Devils trade package. Miller or O'Reilly would really inject what this team is missing.

While I wouldn't trade both Nemec and Casey now, it might be time to convert Casey to a Forward. Fitzy rightfully wants to keep Kovacsevic and the Rightside Defense is signed for a few years.

Miller is a locker room killer - I’d steer clear of him

O’reilly would be great.

True - good point.
Thank you. I'm a little uneasy after last year because as we swoon, teams we need to lose keep winning. In February with the Tournament, we only play 6 games. So our good playoff position could switch if we don't snap out of it. We really need to beat Ottawa tomorrow!

Yup. My son and I showed up also. Too bad the Devils did not.
Pitiful game. Hughes brothers were sloppy as hell all game
This was the 9th game we have been to this year. In the 3rd period when the flyers went on a powerplay, I looked at my wife and told her I was going to the men's room because I was not missing anything that would make me happy. I was washing my hands and heard a loud roar. the flyers scored, I got back to my seat, looked at her, laughed and said "told ya'. It was the 1st time I left my seat during playing time all season. I even got up and left with just under 1 minute to go. It was still 2-1, but the writing was on the wall as to how the game would end. I NEVER do those 2 things. Shows how CRAPPY they played.

Hoping they clean this slop up since the Christmas break. Lucky we got points despite losses.

I'll be at the game Wednesday and hoping for a win.

Disgusting! This team deserved to be booed off the ice. Unlike a couple of seasons ago there has not been a long winning streak to bag points. We could be on the outside of the playoffs by March if this continues.

The laissez-faire attitude MUST change pronto!

Trade Mercer - he’s been absolutely useless and he has trade value. The guy hasn’t won a puck battle in weeks.

My son and I will also be there. It would be fitting if they won for the man of the hour, Jacques Lemaire. Maybe if we are lucky, they can find a way to score 1 1/2 goals. Gotta start small and work their way up to 2 goals per game.
