Another day, another roster move. Actually two. Kevin Kaczmarski and Drew Smith up, Paul Sewald and Chris Flexen down. Mets now lead the league in Polish Kevins. Also in D Smiths.
Kaczmarski reminds me of TJ Rivera is that he's never been considered much of a prospect. He's just hit everywhere he's been, and has forced the organization to keep promoting him. Hitting .363 at Vegas. Yeah I know it's Vegas, but still... Not a lot of power, but at least he's a right-hand hitting outfielder who is not yet ready to collect his pension. Mets did not have any of those. EDIT: I take it back - Kaczmarski is another lefty! Oh well...
Smith is one of the gaggle of relief pitchers acquired in last year's fire sale. Hopefully he will not make us gag.
I am sure we have not seen our last of Flexen, although we may have of Sewald. But Flexen did reach a milestone today before they sent him down. He got one out, bringing his career innings pitched total to 50.1. This pushes him above the 50 inning threshold for rookie/prospect status. So officially, Chris Flexen is no longer a prospect, and has been removed from the Mets Top 30 Prospects List (he was #9). While we commiserate his demotion, let us celebrate his graduation.
