OT: Roster departures at Iowa

Watch out, Iowa is going to become known as a program that runs off players and be completely toxic to recruits. Oh wait I forgot that would only apply to Rutgers...

Not naming names of who should go but Pikiell would be putting himself at a disadvantage by not doing the same thing that every other coach is doing.

Every coach can do that, and you are right, a ton do it.

They just have to remember-they extended the offer to the student. Not the other way around.

Yea, and god forbid we hurt their feelings because they aren't D-1 Caliber, Death Penalty for RU

Wagner is leaving the team to pursue a college football career, probably not at Iowa though.

The other kid is graduating.

one, will earn his degree in May and will be able to play for another school as a graduate transfer without sitting out a season.

Gosh ... does Rutgers have anybody like that? somebody who is only getting a modest amount of playing time right now - but might be able to find a program where they would get triple their current minutes and make more of a contribution - while earning their graduate degree?

The other will finish out this academic year & look to switch to football - & will have one or two years of eligibility (FBS=1 or FCS=2)

Not sure that there is anybody inclined to do this at RU - maybe somebody would? or maybe they would simply seek a (lower tier) basketball program where ... they could make substantial contributions.

One hurdle here for any athlete with just their 'senior' year remaining - is finding a school where a degree can be earned while only spending a senior year as a student - most schools adhere to the "only accept 60 transfer credits" and "last 60 credits have to be from here" rules. However if there was an athlete that found himself - for various reasons - needing two more years to reach degree completion - even though he has already been in college for three years - maybe they would be wise to find a school interested in supporting him via scholarship for two years to play one (red-shirt - then play)
Of course the other option, if the athlete is willing to bring the curtain down on their athletic career would be to identify some documentable medical/health reason that competitive athletics cannot be continued and then they can be moved out of the athletic scholarship category and can be given a non-athletic scholarship to complete their degree.

Thanks for clarifying what's going on and it seems like nothing to make a big deal over or like they were pushed out instead of deciding to leave on their own .
