19 homers. No one has ever even come close in his short time league...ever! 30 games. Great batting average. Dynamite catcher.

Not enough sample I guess in the end but darn impressive.

Related - who is his 2nd basemen for the Mets hitting everything in sight?

Dumb question: Whos the other candidates? Sanchez has a STRONG case in his short time.

I guess he does have another 10 games or so too. Imagine if he got to 25 homers?

It appears to be a 2 man race between him and Fulmer, a SP with the Tigers.

There has been a precedent set for a late call up being ROY. In 1959 Willie McCovey was called up on July 30. He had 192 AB with 65 hits, 13 HR, 38 RBI and a .354 BA. As of this moment Sanchez, who was called up August 2 has 159 AB, 56 hits, 19 HR, 38 RBI, and an average of .337.

Could be wrong but only player i see who may be rookie of the year is Tigers pitcher Michael Fuller, who would look great on the Mets rotation right about now. Of course he was traded for Cespedes so there...

Nomar Mazara on Texas, but Sanchez is gonna blow right past him statistically. Michael Fulmer, SP on the Tigers and RP Edwin Diaz on Seattle are the other guys.

Anthony McCarron wrote a good column about this in today's Daily News making the case for him. He compared Sanchez's numbers and games played to Willie McCovey when he was named rookie of the year. Very similar numbers all the way around.

Comparison posted above.

You need 130 at bats to qualify, Sanchez is at 166, so he definitely can win it!

It really comes down to whether anyone playing a full season is having a good rookie season. For the McCovey example, there were really no worthy rookie of the year candidates so he won even with his limited playing time. Vada Pinson had a great season but missed being eligible for rookie of the year by I believe 6 at bats. If Pinson was still eligible, he probably would have won it. It looks like Fulmer is his only hurdle.

Count me in as a yes, he wins it, vote. Historic for a shorter time will win the day over pretty good over the whole season. What he's doing is just mind boggling.

Sanchez' RBI total is pretty impressive as well. And his slugging percentage is incredible.

His power performance is historic. Precedence for awarding Rookie of Year to a player with limited at bats has already been established with McCovey. He should win it hands down.

He would have my vote. His last two months have been impressive. If he keeps this pace next season, kid may be the next superstar.

I like the kid in Cleveland, who has been an everyday player all year, is hitting .300 and has been instrumental in replacing the injured all-star Brantley on a team that will win its division. The Yankees are also-rans this year. If Sanchez played for Seattle, no one would care. Also, Mazura at Texas is underrated; he has been a key to the Rangers' surge.

Is something that happened 60 years ago really a good precedent ?

Kevin mass

Yeah, who can forget the start of Kevin Maas. Once opposing pitchers discovered that he couldn't hit a breaking ball, he flopped.

So far opposing pitchers have not discovered any weakness in Sanchez. Otherwise, they would be exploiting it.

Kevin mass

Uh...I've seen Kevin Maas. This kid is no Kevin Maas.
I don't think he could possibly continue hitting home runs at the pace that he is currently on....no one can. But I think it's reasonable to think that the Yankees have found a strong bat for the heart of their lineup for the future. And he also has a damn good throwing arm from what I've seen.

Can this kid just be the first Sanchez, instead of the next Piazza or Bench, or whoever? HEven if he is in The Bronz, he has a chance to be a good to great one.
