Division 2 California college which means sone of these kids are in scholarships. Joining other schools like Hartford and Saint Francis of New York City who are either dropping down from Division 1 or ending all athletics.

They waited until semester started to tell students/athletes.
Larry Allen (Dallas OL) played there when they had football (dropped earlier).

Not sure what the relevance you are trying to create.
Is this some half-assed attempt at referencing NIL?
This is minimal to do with athletics.

“It detailed a list of reductions the university would make at the end of the year because of a projected shortfall close to $24 million: cutting more than 20 degree programs, laying off some departments’ faculty members, and eliminating all NCAA Division II sports.”

Breaking news: Struggling college cuts expenses.

10 Strongest NFL Players Ever

It’s appropriate Larry Allen is #1 alphabetically, because, with the possible exception of Terry Long, he is the strongest NFL player ever. Allen was benching 500+ by the time he left college in 1994. And by 1998, dominating his offensive line position for the Dallas Cowboys, he could bench press more than 600 and squat 800. There’s a video of him in the Cowboys’ weight room, benching 635 pounds, then 675, then 705.

I feel like most people go to a place like Sonoma or Rampo College or Indiana of Pennsylvania . That is the most common American collegiate experience. (Avg enrollment at U.S. colleges is 6,300) If they are dropping sports, it says something.

Realistically so far, they have failed in their mission to create value for their communities. They tend to focus on liberal arts students prefer while local communities need tech, trade and medical.

My wife and son are both SSU grads. Not only did they drop all sports, some academic programs were also dropped, including my son’s major (Art History). The situation sucks, and it seems that SSU is a poorly run institution. I hope the university gets it act together soon.

FWIW, if anyone happens to vacation in Nor Cal, the Green Center is a truly great concert venue - especially sitting outside on the grass.

One other note, Sonoma State is similar to my undergrad school - Ramapo College.

Not sure I want to do a deep dive on this, but this appears to be an issue specific to Sonoma State and not to the California State University System. SSU had two high-profile resignations recently and attendance is way down in recent years. The issues surrounding these presidents have smothered the university in bad news and now the stink has gotten much, much worse.

I’m not knowledgeable enough to say what’s needed next, but it seems the CSU administrators ought to either take over operations. The next president has to have the ability to raise morale of the students, faculty and staff.

When people cry about sports taking money away from "academics" I always say there is a huge amount of waste on academic side. No college should have a "gender studies" department because A) you can study the same things in history, sociology depts etc. and B) GS studies as taught in GS depts is radical and subversive at the core - and intended to be destructive. Sonoma did close their GS dept. I do say some liberal arts are needed but not the undermining kind CCP forced BlackRock to push

"However, sports is not the only department that is to be removed from Sonoma State.

Other ‘Departments identified for closure’ include the Art History, Economics; Geology; Philosophy; Theater and Dance; and Women and Gender Studies departments.

The college also plans to merge the Ethnic Studies departments (American Multicultural Studies, Chicano and Latino Studies, and Native American Studies) into one department with one major.

The following programs are identified for elimination by the University: Administrative Services Credential in ELSE; Art History BA; Art Studio BFA; Dance BA; Earth and Environmental Sciences BA; Economics BA; Education Leadership MA; English MA; French BA; Geology BS; German Minor; Global Studies BA; History MA; Interdisciplinary Studies BA; Interdisciplinary Studies MA; Philosophy BA; Physical Science BA; Physics BA; Physics BS; Public Administration MPA; Spanish MA; Theatre Arts BA; Women and Gender Studies BA.
