So Syracuse just pulled another offer from another commit. There have been several. I think Babers is a huge dingus head for doing this. I'm so glad Ash had the integrity to honor the scholarships of every single one of our commits. I'm also glad Ash dropped Syracuse and they ended up with Babers.

Both of you guys suck. I hope you never make decisions that effect other people especially kids.
I make personnel decisions on a daily basis, you can't be sentimental, it is your butt on the line if the organization or team doesn't perform either in business or sports. You are saddling not only the new coach but his staff with kids that simply might not cut it, careers are on the line.

So why did Ash not cut ties with anybody? The answer is honor. Something you don't have.

I don't think it was an easy decision, but SU program was not heading in the right direction and they needed to improve their talent. Hopefully the ones that lost their scholarship will find a place on another ACC team and make them pay.

I think Ash stuck with our recruits because they were good players. Flood actually had a good recruiting year. Many may have moved anyway but the class was a good one.
Is RU interested in any of the guys Babers cut loose?

Is it honorable to offer a scholarship to a kid you don't think will be able to impact your program and have him ride the bench for his college career or be forced to transfer at some point? Not in my book. The honorable thing is to cut him loose and give him a chance to find a home that fits his abilities. Let's not kid ourselves, part of the reason Ash is honoring all of the commits is because it takes some recruiting pressure off of him and his staff.

While I don't love it sometimes kids don't fit a system or simply aren't up to par. I would be more against it if schools guaranteed coaches 4 or 5 years. However, if you are gonna fire a guy 3 years in you can't blame him for not wasting a recruiting class. I think it's disgusting to do if there isn't a coaching change.

IMO
The school has a right to do this, but it does seem kind of weak.
How is the staff going to fill all those open scholarships?
How many did he pull?
Offers get pulled every year (See Alabama & Ohio State)
Unfortunately, it is the nature of the beast.
Hopefully the kids who had their scholarship pulled end up at another school where they can continue their education and dream of playing college football.

You don't know that until he hits the field and competes. He may actually end up being better than you think.

Has Babers uncovered a cadre of talented kids who want to go to Syracuse all of a sudden who are supplanting these two-star kids being left out? I haven't followed what's going on up there, but I'm having a hard time believing that he's got three- and four-star kids looking to take the place of those other kids.

Another thing you have to consider is that when you drop a kid late in the game is that so many other schools have their classes filled up.

Cuse just dropped a kid who now may have to go to UMASS. Now, apparently Cal is showing interest but hasn't offered yet. Now if Cal does, than I guess it's a happy ending, but if not he's gotta go to a terrible program.

This kid has two weeks to find a home.

If you are changing offensive schemes that affects more than the QB. Defense as well, how you line up often determines what type of athlete you need in each position and how many. If they are cutting kids loose who don't fit into the new system, how is that doing the kid a disservice? I am lost by this honor every commitment of a former regime nonsense, where does that exist in real life? The kids can jump and often do, but new coaches must honor every commitment made by the former staff, unreal.

Coach Ash clearly doesn't agree with you.

No idea on the stars but it would stand to reason that whoever he is bringing in, he believes that they are better, rightly or wrongly, than the kids he's booting right?

we don't know if Ash is honoring all the commits to take off pressure, that is an assumption without any evidence.

anyway, I would honor the commit of any recruit Flood had, but call the player in and give him the facts....the facts being that he will PROBABLY always be far down the depth chart and not see the field... and that is it.....if the player thinks he is better than the evaluation of Ash, he will move on his own..... or if not, after a year sitting behind 2 or 3 players at his position ...... or he might prove the coach wrong....

Same general comment. Babers should have sat the kid down, told him his chnces of seeing the field are minimal, and if he wants to play then he should go somewhere else. A more-or-less mutual agreement saves face for everyone.

If the kid STILL wants to go to school at Syracuse, then maybe Babers should reconsider an athlete with that sort of belief in himself and determination. Retaining the offer would be a brick in the wall for building trust with current and future recruits. Certainly there would be negative recruiting about this down the road.

Stop it Abreu. It's been stated several times. I think T. Hunt may have also.

Stop what? Are you really that naive ? Some call it a school 'cooling' on a commit, the kid gets the hint and looks for another school that wants him more, another might call it 'pulling the ship', and another scenario is a kid is not willing to 'gray shirt' and moves on.

There's a lot of reasons and a lot of ambiguity in these situations.

One of the mods I believe yesterday said that this staff never stopped recruiting any of our recruits. So move on with your foolishness.

Both of you guys suck. I hope you never make decisions that effect other people especially kids. You don't tell a kid who has been committed for eight months to take a hike a few weeks before signing day and find a new home.

Obviously you don't make decisions that can impact your career or those who work on your staff and depend on you to make the right decisions.

Lame. It's not always about you. It's about integrity. Ash clearly agrees with me and not you.

OP started a thread and is name calling anyone who disagrees with him. Seems like a reasonable person.

I posted something similar the other day in one of the MD related threads that you guys have, but I don't have a problem with this at all. When a new head coach comes in, he brings in his own staff and sets up a culture that he thinks is going to be successful. If he believes that some of the commits from the previous coach does not fit what he is looking to do, why should he pretend that they do? He's lying to the kid in that case. All of these kids will be better off in situations where they have more of an opportunity anyway.

"Honor" is a funny thing when talking about college football recruiting these days. Look at the hundreds of kids flipping their commitments just a few weeks before NSD, leaving their original programs scrambling to find a replacement. Where's the honor in that?

It's been stated more than once in this forum that he has honored every scholarship. Now stop being a dingus.
It also happens to be one of the things Ash stated unequivocally in his introductory press conference. So until he is proven a liar by facts, I will take his word over that of some guy on a message board.

I would never want to do business or rely on a guy like you for anything.

Coach Ash to kid: We will honor your scholarship and we will be happy for you to join Rutgers. But in the interest of transparency, we need to let you know that we need all the help we can get, which is why we are recruiting more players that plays your position.

Honor ship (Check)
Inform kid where he stands (Check)
