OT: UConn football HC Jim Mora is planning on returning to the NFL during this offseason, per sources.

Did the players just get offers or are they transferring? And how much of a salary difference would it mean? Buy out cost?

Not sure this is a done deal.

Just an odd story. I mean, the news that he signed an extension just broke like what .. yesterday? (Maybe the day before?). I assume, then, that he was using that for leverage?

It's interesting that the extension was only for 2 years. I would've imagined it would've been for more than just that, if they were happy with him.

Non-P4 schools are just becoming AAA and AA teams where players just get called up and jump at the opportunity to play in the Big Leagues.

It’s disappointing for a veteran coach like Mora who felt like he built something with a strong foundation when in fact it’s a house of cards that falls apart when players just leverage their tape to get out of Dodge.

Would not blame him if he pulled a “Hafley”.

Because it's UConn and their fans are douches, I don't feel bad in the slightest. Might pop on over to Boneyard to watch the meltdown later.
Who was that crazy fan they had who would always be here starting shit something like "UM Bear" always argued with Nuts....

I would think a bigger program like ND would buy him.

Maybe ND wants to discourage that sort of thing from its own players and dont want to get their toes wet in the NIL heists.
I dont see ND going NIL gangster

No surprise really, sad for UCONN as the BIG12 did take notice.

However hold on, if the Giants job opens and Mara wants Bill Belichick, UNC will be without a HC.

Heard Mara plans to keep Daboll and Schoen one more year.
Yes I heard that as well, but if Philly embarrassed them maybe he would change his mind.

This is all after he almost fired Bill Parcells after 1983's 3-12-1.

NYGs have fired 3 coaches already in less than 10 years
Dabol is probably better than them but the 2nd year collapse and Wink fiasco was just weird

With the current state of the NIL and portal circus, why wouldn’t he want to bail?
Good for him. He gave UConn a solid year and can parlay it into a more stable job and not deal with the current extortion model of “college athletics”.

They’ve done it two years in a row with QB

Riley Leonard entered portal after Duke coach left.
Then ND reached out so its not like he was settled at ND and got lured away.
Same Hartman I don't know much about aside from he spent 5 years at Wake and wanted a shot at bigger time football

"Leonard entered the transfer portal after Duke coach Mike Elko left to become the head coach at Texas A&M."

Maybe Yukon should join a conference for football.
It would seem to make sense but would never win more than 5 or 6 games ever.
I had not looked at their schedule this year until now.
The only 2 teams that could have stood in the way of us being 12-0 with that schedule would have been Duke and Cuse.

If the ACC collapses some feel that a renewal of the Yankee Conference makes sense. UConn, Maine, UMASS, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and then add BC and Cuse as the big dogs. Easy travel by bus for all sports and plenty of local rivalries for the fans.

It's an apples and oranges comparison though. They're an independent with little resources having to scrap together a schedule. I'd guess they're mostly playing teams that are on par with them.

I don’t see why this was so eye-opening to Mora there are basically no rules anymore. I recently watched the 30 for 30 on SMU and the Death Penalty and you realize how easy this whole NIL thing is. It was about money back then. It’s about money now. Who’s got the most to spend.

At some point college football will collapse unless reasonable transfer and payment rules are instituted. The current settlement is a joke. Schools should be pushing for a structure with transfer payments like international soccer or baseball. A school like UConn should get paid for a big time player they recruited/developed getting poached by a top program.

it won’t be long before big and small programs realize between supporting athletes and maintaining facilities their rev shares and finances will be upside down. A lot of universities will scrap football programs. Some will sell out to PE and license their trademarks and lease their facilities. Then you will have the top dogs with alumni backing them in a joint-venture type coalition structure. No chance the current model is sustainable in the next 10 years.

Whether it's Congress or the NCAA, something "drastic" needs to happen with this NIL bullshit.

Does this mean that Westfield NJ native Notre Dame QB Steve Angeli returns to the Garden State?

This, in a heartbeat
I think it is very possible. Especially since neither is getting any younger. If Parcells heart damage is seen a few months earlier, the other Bill never goes to Cleveland.

Besides what owners say publically in season, often changes after the season.
