If you have DirecTV you get 5 total channels. Network feed. 2 featured groups, Mix channel, and featured holes which are usually the tough holes starting the back nine.

Not worth it to have to have DirecTV

Living in PA and being a Yankee and Devil fan its a must. Also Comcast maybe the worst cable company in the world.
I've no problems with DirecTV and its alot cheaper than Fios.

USGA weather forecast for tomorrow is not good for afternoon tee times. Winds 20mph+, perhaps gusting up to 30 as day goes along. Some concern on Golf Channel about balls moving on the green. Morning tee times may have some showers early and slower (easier?) conditions.

This could be like we see at the British Open where tee times will have a major say in the championship.

And only slightly less windy on Friday, whereas Sat/Sun should be light winds. All 4 days will be dry, though, so with two days of windy conditions and four days of dry conditions, the greens could become lightning fast and maybe unplayable again, if they're not very careful, like back in 2004.

There is no way they let that happen. Mike Davis was very clear about that.

I have tickets for Saturday. Trying to decide whether to drive from NJ or take the LIRR. Has anyone been there this week and can offer to advise on best option?

This from the US Open website:

The MTA Long Island Rail Road is the easiest and most convenient way to get to the U.S. Open. The LIRR is committed to providing safe and comfortable transportation. Train service will be provided in both directions on the Montauk Branch and will accommodate customers traveling from either New York City or Eastern Long Island. Shinnecock Hills Golf Club is located 85 miles from New York’s Penn Station and the trip is expected to take approximately two hours.

Golf fans will utilize a temporary train platform that will be constructed in close proximity to the championship grounds. After exiting the train, fans will proceed through security screening prior to crossing a pedestrian bridge to reach the championship grounds. Provisions for persons with limited mobility will be in place to enable access to the championship. Regular fares will be charged. Tickets purchased after boarding the train carry an additional charge, so the LIRR encourages golf fans to purchase Round-Trip tickets in advance from a Ticket Machine, staffed Ticket Office, or through MTA eTix, a mobile ticketing App.

If you drive from NJ you better leave now. You might make the noon tee times Saturday.
DO NOT DRIVE. Train is the only way to get there from west of the property without killing yourself.

Thats a tough commute for a day trip. Probably 5- hours minimum round trip depending where you live. Once you get there it should be a blast!

McElroy struggling. Course playing tough. Wind is an issue, of course.

Would love to see Phil finally win the US Open after finishing 2nd six times. He's played pretty well most of the year, so it's possible, but I wouldn't bet on it at his age (47).

Have almost never rooted for Tiger before, but he's finally a more sympathetic figure, given how far he fell, and now that he's healthy again, I wouldn't mind seeing him win.

My pick, though, is Rory. For some reason, I think he's ready to put it all together again. I also think Jason Day is ready to win this. My dark horse pick is Ian Poulter - very talented golfer, who has never quite lived up to his potential.
Well, Rory may be on his way to shooting 90 (5 over through 5), but Poulter is leading the tournament right now at -2 through 7. Only 65 more easy holes to play, lol. Some seriously brutal scores out there already.

Jeeze - Phil and Spieth are really struggling early.

Who is that woman in the white dress on FS1? Yikes!

And after all the talk Phil bogeys #16. Perfect position hitting third shot, 70 yards from the pin and skulls it over the green lol.

Spieth and Phil +4

Bubba Watson +5

Day +6

Rory +9

So great watching the US Open being played at a real test of a golf course. This is what the tournament should look like. Nothing like last years joke of a course.

Rory is dying out there. LOL he shot a 42 on his front.

These guys look like me out there. [laughing][laughing]

Only 2 players under par so far. And only at -1, other 76 over par. McElroy at +10. So much for this being his kind of links course.

Not enough being made about the direction of the wind. Played out there in September and it was howling, same direction as today. The member talked at length about the design and layout being done for the prevailing wind and when it blows in this direction, the course, because of the angles, becomes diabolical.

He acted like I caught a bad break having to play it when it was like that. Said he wouldn't even have shown up if he didn't have guests. I shot 14 shots higher than I did when I played it on a calm day, a couple of years earlier.

Par may win this tournament, although light winds on the weekend should allow better scoring. Cut, however, could be an insanely high number (since it's just the first 2 rounds), like +9 or +10. Phil finished at +7, Spieth at +8 and Rory at +10 (80!). But my guy Poulter finished at -1, tied for the lead.

Unbelievable the mess Tiger is making at the 1st. Took three shots to get a ball back over a ridge. That's the stuff of 18 handicaps. Easy opening hole, too.

He at least stopped the bleeding after going 4 over in the first 2 holes, by parring the next 2. He's hitting the ball really well with his full shots, but obviously not chipping/putting well (except for the last hole, with a nice up and down).

From 4 over through 2 to 3 over through 10 isn't bad, as +3 is tied for 33rd. I'm sure he wishes he could have that first hole back. DJ at -2 in a share for the lead and Thomas just doubled 10 (5 shots from inside 100 yards) to fall to +3.

It is a bit sad to watch tiger struggle like this, 4 puts on a relatively flat green followed by a horrible drive into the thick rough. Not looking like he will even make the cut at this point. He needs to play almost every week to get back to close to being competitive in majors, but his health may not allow that or his mental toughness .

Looked like he might play himself back into the tournament. Amateur hour blow ups on and around the greens today. Can't do that. Meanwhile, DJ cruisin' like he used to.

I'd be very surprised if he doesn't make the cut - I expect him to play well tomorrow - his ball striking has been pretty good, but he's struggled with his short game - if it comes around a little he'll be fine.

We all been saying that for months. His big mistake was a drive into the rough on 14 and a poor decision to advance the ball

Yeah, I really thought he had settled down after the horrible start and was only +3 after 11. But for me, what killed his round was the 4-putt on 13 - if he just hits a better lag putt, he pars the hole. Double there was inexcusable and you could see he was seething and I think that affected his mindset on 14, contributing to the bad drive. From +3 to +8 in 3 holes is just some bad golf.

DJ (through 6) and Henley (through 10) both tied for the lead at -2. Tiger is even so far today and playing well. Thomas has been all over the place, but has scrambled to an even par round so far. And all of a sudden, it's raining pretty hard - the intensity has definitely been a surprise - shouldn't last too long and will soften things up a bit.
