OT: US Open, Who You Picking?

DJ (through 6) and Henley (through 10) both tied for the lead at -2. Tiger is even so far today and playing well. Thomas has been all over the place, but has scrambled to an even par round so far. And all of a sudden, it's raining pretty hard - the intensity has definitely been a surprise - shouldn't last too long and will soften things up a bit.

DJ with a great, great round of 67 to reach -4, 4 strokes ahead of the field at this point. He may just run away with this. Tommy Fleetwood shot the low round of the tourney, a 66 to finish at +1. Poulter and Hoffman are on the course and are at even, while Stenson is also in the clubhouse at +1.

Tiger was playing quite well and then just hit another horrible iron on 1 from the fairway into the fescue, leading to an unforced error double bogey - he dropped to +12 at one point, but did birdie the last 2 holes to get to -10, which gives him some chance of making the cut, although a lot of players have to play badly for the cut line to move that high. Phil and Spieth are at +8 and Rory is at +11, all through 7.

OMG, Ian Poulter just choked pretty hard. He was at -3 on his 17th hole and was in the greenside bunker in two (after being in the fairway). And then disaster. He skulled his sand wedge well over the green, but caught a break with a decent lie (not in the fescue). But then on his 4th shot from 20 yards off the green, he scuffed it into the friggin' fescue in front of him. He then punched it out onto the green and one-putted for a triple bogey, dropping him to even par, when he should've had a bogey, at worst.

Defending champion Brooks Koepka just finished on fire, as several others have, with the winds down. Koepka shot a 66 to get to +1, including birdieing 4 of his last 5 holes. And Spieth birdied 4 straight to go from +11 to +7, while Phil birdied a few also, to get to +6. Looking like the cut will be at +8, so Tiger and Rory and many others won't be playing this weekend.

Edit: OOF! (think Batman TV show captions) Spieth 3-putted 17 and bogeyed 18, including stubbing his chip and missing a 10-footer, to finish at -9 to miss the cut. And Poulter bogeyed the last hole to finish at +1 - damn, he was my darkhorse pick and was only one back of DJ. Rose finished at +1 and Fowler at +2 and Piercey at E, while Hoffman is at -1 but in some trouble. DJ's tourney to win.

You do know most of us are glued to the TV if we are on this this thread, right??

Some are and some are not - some just check in periodically and I know when I do that, I like being able to get a quick summary from other posters. You're welcome to ignore my posts.

This thread?? I doubt it. Maybe those on the Tiger thread where fighting is the norm more likely. Everyone posting so far here its obvious we are all tuned in.

I wasn't glued to it today. I just heard Tiger's is going to miss the cut though.

Tiger. Definitely. Not. Back.

You are getting as bad as BigTenRutgers and the Eastern Michigan game. We all get it, you hate Tiger. Jeeze

Tiger should be focused on the fact that he has as many cuts missed as top tens in majors ever since Elin knocked him upside his head in Nov 2009. He has not won a major in 10 years. YJS will win at least a few more majors including a PGA for the career grand slam.

You completely missed my point. Yes, people active in the thread very likely wouldn't need a summary/highlights, but plenty of people check in on threads periodically (especially when at work) or at the end of the day and they might want to read those details. I'm that way when I visit threads after a day of work, where I can't check in on the event in progress. I happened to be off today, so I posted some details. It's a friggin' message board where nothing actually matters, so maybe just let it go.

If you want an arguement join Cali on the Tiger thread. You both are big on nonsense. Can you just stop with your crap for once. This isnt a weather thread. The big golf fans on this thread don't need a blow by blow. Most of us have been watching Golf Channel and Fox non stop since Monday

Try not being a d-bag for just 5 minutes. Please.

Try not calling people names for a second would be nice. But I know you don't have that restraint

You start an argument with me, unprovoked, and then tell me I'm being argmentative when I simply explained my rationale and then pretend as if you're the only golf fan on this board/thread and what you say should be law. So yeah, I called you a well-deserved name.

I gave my opinion and you start with name calling. But Im the Jerk. Get over yourself and go back to the board you swore you loyalty to. Oh wait you have no loyalty.

Dont bring me into your argument. And I love Tiger. He’s going to win me money.

Zach Johnson just said, "they've lost the course," meaning it's borderline unplayable. My guess is the USGA is ok with it and the high scores, especially since there's no equivalent of 2004's "windmill" hole 7. DJ is 6 over through 8 today - ouch! And Stenson is the only one left who's at even or better.

So great watching the US Open being played at a real test of a golf course. This is what the tournament should look like. Nothing like last years joke of a course.
I'll take Erin Hills over this crap. No one is featuring their great golf skills. This isn't fun to watch, nothing exciting about this at all.

Check Berger and Finau. DJ is just playing poorly. This is nothing like 2004.

My pick is still going strong. If Tony can put well tomorrow, it's him and DJ to the end. But really it's anyone's (within reason) for the taking. Sorry Phil!

Awful tourney and it's sad what the USGA did to this wonderful course. And yes, they are already admitting that they screwed the pooch. How is it a good/fun to watch the best golfers in the world just play not to screw up? Any time a course set-up makes the golfers play it safe and just try to hold on for dear life is a garbage tourney.

A major is about players going for it and taking risks and testing their abilities.
