OT: US Open, Who You Picking?

Awful tourney and it's sad what the USGA did to this wonderful course. And yes, they are already admitting that they screwed the pooch. How is it a good/fun to watch the best golfers in the world just play not to screw up? Any time a course set-up makes the golfers play it safe and just try to hold on for dear life is a garbage tourney.

A major is about players going for it and taking risks and testing their abilities.
They screwed the guys who were actually playing well today.

From ESPN:

USGA officials agreed, with executive director Mike Davis later admitting the setup was too tough and promising to slow the course down overnight.

The 15th green also caused problems based on where the pin position was in the back right. And USGA officials agreed that they erred in setting up the course.

"We missed it with the wind," said Davis, who also takes a big role in course setup. "It blew harder than we thought it was going to blow. The greens got fast, and it was too much for the wind we had. At 15, you were seeing shots well-played, and they weren't rewarded. We would say it was a very tough test, but it was too tough this afternoon.

"You saw some really low scores this morning, but when it got so dry like this and the wind got up, it didn't work. This golf course will get slowed down tonight."

Yeah, those 2 players did well earlier in the morning, but both sucked during the first 2 rounds (both +7).

This tourney is about who will suck the least.

The tight field should make for a helluva Final Round. Early starts should have an advantage again.

If you get past the scores, the leader board is legit. Look at all the recent US Open winners and top players in the top 16. You can’t relax or take the bailout area on this course.

Yep. The Open does this all the time. They try to keep the winner around E. Sometimes like yesterday the course gets away from them and causes silly golf.

You can say that but plenty of guys hit good shots into 15 and their put went 20 feet by or off the green. That is stupid golf and there is a large probability that one if the people that are close to winning did not do so because of a bad break from a stupid setup by the USGA.

The PGA tour sets up golf courses every week. The USGA does it 6 times a year maybe. It’s time for those arrogant pricks to let someone else do what they don’t know how to do — set up a course.

key word is plenty. They are all playing the same course. Everyone is getting screwed.....LOL

I don't know why anyone is trying to defend the USGA here. They admitted they f-uped again.

Holy crap, Fleetwood shot 63 to finish at +2 and he just might win this, with Koepka at +1 and DJ and Reed both at +2.

4 shot difference between early and late rounds. Not the same course.
That’s life. You think all players are playing under the same conditions all the time? Crowd singing happy birthday to Phil and Ian getting verbally abused by drunks on the course. This is the prime example of wusstifaction. Glad Koepka won. What a performance. Dustin choked hard.

I know players don’t play the same course throughout the day. You just completely contradicted the point you made and I responded to. Have another beer and enjoy the rest of Father’s Day.

Very impressive day and tournament. Also impressive is back to back on two completely different courses with dramatically different set ups.

Tremendous job by Koepka . BACK TO BACK US OPEN TITLES ! First time since Curtis Strange since late 1990s ! There have been many 'one only' Major winners, but once you get to '2' the list drops dramatically !

Happy Father’s Day to you too. I didn’t contradict myself because I said the key word was plenty (not all). You brought up the fact the 4 strokes difference between early and afternoon groups. It was a great tournament. Only black eye was Phil and his stupid moving putt.

It was a great tournament. I enjoyed it completely while I was there. Course is beautiful and that area is truly special.

Especially on Thursday, the USGA saw how their setup on the greens would significantly impact one group of players vs others. 4 stroke differences don’t ever happen without a significant change in weather from morning until afternoon. This did not happen except Friday morning. The ego of the USGA impacted the outcome. That can’t be argued.

Do you think it impacted who won the tournament or the order of finish? I thought BK played better than anyone that was in contention. If DJ didn’t 3 putt twice, we have a playoff. Those 3 putts were not difficult. BK was money at key moments.

In all honestly I have been traveling since 2:00, just got back to Florida. I will watch tomorrow.

Tony Finau needs to learn how to win. Extremely talented. Missed that short putt on 12. Had to drive it into the fairway on 17. Cost him a chance. Win he breaks through he will be great.
