OT- Weekend Cold Snap w/ Storm Update

It's going to be "cold" for 4 days, in February. Lots of whining going on for winter being, well, winter. Good grief!

Still trolling eh? Five days in a row below freezing is a pretty serious cold snap, but probably not worth making a big deal about. However, two brutally cold days with record or near record low maximum temps sandwiched around probable record low minimum temps Sunday morning is worth reporting on, especially since we will likely have wind chills of -15 to -25F and wind chills lower than -20F can lead to potential frostbite in ~30 minutes for exposed skin, as per the graphic. I would think Log Cabin Republicans like you would need this kind of info...

Here is something you rarely see here. A Wind Chill watch has been issued as life threatening cold comes this weekend with real feel temps as low as 30 below zero by Sunday morning.

Tonight into tomorrow morning will see some scattered snow squalls that could leave a coating to an inch or two with a low in the teens.
Tomorrow very cold and windy with a few snow showers possible with a high in the teens. Saturday night it will be dangerously cold with a low of 3 degrees in NYC with below zero inland with wind chills in the -20 to -30 range
Sunday mostly sunny with a high in the teens.
Next storm on Monday night into Tuesday looks like snow to start that changes to rain as it tracks inland and brings up warmer air.

In addition to the extreme cold there will be plenty of snow around in some areas this weekend, especially if you head to the great lakes where over a foot of snow is possible.

NYC just sent out a wind chill advisory.

Notification issued 2/12/16 at 12:28 PM. The National Weather Service has issued a Wind Chill Advisory from 4PMSaturday, 2/13 thru 12PMSunday, 2/14. Wind chill values of 20 - 25 degrees below zero are expected.

New Yorkers should take precautions, including staying indoors when possible, checking on neighbors who may be at risk, including the elderly and people with disabilities, access and functional needs. Report loss of heat or hot water to property managers & 3-1-1.

Cold. Real feel temperatures will be mainly 20-30 below zero for the region for Saturday night and Sunday morning. Well north in upstate New York they will drop to a whopping 50 below zero.

The National Weather Service has issued a Wind Chill Advisory from 6 p.m. Saturday to 9 a.m. Sunday.
Temperatures will be dropping through the teens on Saturday as another round of Arctic air moves into the region. Low temperatures Saturday night may drop to zero with wind chills ranging from 15 to 20 below zero with winds of 15 to 25 miles per hour, with gusts up to 40 mph. Wind chills will slowly ease by late Sunday morning.
The low wind chills may lead to frostbite and hypothermia if precautions are not taken.
Please take extra precaution when venturing outdoors. Dress in layers with the outer layer of your clothing tightly woven and preferably wind resistant, to reduce body-heat loss caused by the wind. Keep your skin dry. Stay out of the wind when possible. Drink plenty of fluids since hydration increases the blood’s volume, which helps prevent frostbite.
Be sure to check on your elderly family members and neighbors.
Also, keep your pets warm and indoors. No matter the temperature, wind chill can threaten a pet’s life. Pets are sensitive to severe cold and are at risk for frostbite when outdoors during extreme cold.
Some snow showers are forecasted this evening and tonight which could produce a dusting.

Dangerously cold wind chills are expected across the area Saturday night into Sunday. Wind chill advisories and warnings are in effect from 4pm Saturday until noon on Sunday for wind chills between 20 and 30 degrees below zero. Temperatures this cold can quickly lead to frostbite and hypothermia if proper precautions are not taken.

Here is an update on how low low the wind chills will get within the next 24 hours. Make sure to bundle up if you have to go outdoors.
Some basic cold weather tips also include:
- only letting pets outdoors for short duration
- letting pipes drip at night to prevent freezing...
- starting your car a few minutes ahead of time so the engine can warm up

Today will see a mix of clouds and sun.
The wind will pick up this afternoon as temps remain steady and then drop into the teens this afternoon. scattered flurries are possible.
Tonight mostly clear. Windy and bitter cold with a low of 3 in NYC and below Zero most elsewhere with a real feel of 20 to 30 below zero.
Tomorrow mostly sunny with a high in the teens.

Keep an eye on a storm for late Monday into Tuesday. As snow changes to ice to rain. How much depends on the track and your location.
Also some models are developing another storm behind this that needs to be watched.
For now the cold is the big story

With this topic in mind, has anyone else had Sam Adams Cold Snap? Had it on tap the other day at Happy Hour, and thought it was pretty good. Might try to pick some up for home.

My go to beer the past couple years. Only beer I will drink when it's out. I have to mention that I really like wheat/white ales. Sam Adams Cold Snap and SA White Christmas are 2 of my favorites.

Been my favorite of their spring beers by far. Think this one is sticking thankfully.

Cold Snap is one of my favorite Sam Adams beers along with Octoberfest. Problem I have with SA is they seem to put out their seasonal beers about a month too early. Im not ready for Octoberfest in early September. Likewise this is hardly time for Spring themed Cold Snap.

Agreed. SA Summer will probably be out in March! Lol. Don't like SA Summer nearly as much.

I missed out on the cold, I got up late. It warmed up to 15 degrees and I threw a cup of water in the air and it didn't turn into snow.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Today will be mostly sunny with a high in the teens.

Tonight dry and cold with a low in the single digits to low teens.

Tomorrow snow develops in the afternoon with a high in the 30s.

Tomorrow night snow mixes with and changes to rain from se to nw so that Tuesday morning everyone is above freezing. Snow could accumulate a coating to three inches (se to nw) before the changeover.

On Tuesday we could see a break in the rain in the morning but rain will redevelop during the day with a high in the 50s.

There is no changes to the forecast for the upcoming storm.

Snow to ice to rain, the closer to coast the faster the changeover to rain as warm air takes over.

Any advisories issued by the nws are for anything that falls before the changeover.

The latest briefing package for the upcoming storm from nws.
- Light snow will develop Monday morning with the steadiest snow in the afternoon hours.
- Snow will transition to rain by the late afternoon along the coast and early evening in the Philadelphia region.
- A period of freezing rain is likely for the Lehigh valley, Poconos and NW NJ before switching to rain overnight with ice accumulation up to 1/4 inch.
- Snow will range from a few inches north and west of Ph...iladelphia to less than an inch along the coast.
