My Father Prosetlized It In So. Cal

My father, Bernard Morrison helped start the Orange County Chess Assoc. although he was legally blind at the time.

Nice article about him (attached).

Wish I could play - but I was traumatized by all the beatings I received from him when I was 4: he'd spot me a queen and rook / then proceed to wipe me out.

I play on Window's 7 (level 3)....I'm not good...but there is some interest.

I'm rated around 1700 which I would say probably makes me about the best player in a towns worth of people on average.

I quit after Boris Spassky resigned in the final game against Bobby Fischer in 1972.Even Grandmaster Shelby Lyman, doing the move by move recreation on Ch.13,couldn't understand Spassky's packing it in.

I play on Chess.com once in ahile - the 5 minute games.....

I love to play chess in person: had a computer chess board decades ago - kind of wore out any enthusiasm to playing on a machine.

Good for you. Good luck. I play at least one game against the computer every day. I currently play AI Factory's android version which I think is decent. I also used to play Optime's version when I had an iPhone. I thought each of these games are good, but not as good as they could be.

I used to work for a company where the development staff had afternoon Bughouse games as a team building exercise. Nothing destroys your ability to play chess as regularly playing Bughouse can.

The app I'm creating is a sort of correspondence based chess game, where you play against an actual person, anyone who has also downloaded the app, and you set a time limit for making moves. 1hr up to 2 days.

So you can play a game throughout the day with someone without having to stare at the board.

Interesting. Multiple games simultaneously? Alert when your opponent has made a move?

Wow, shades of yesteryear when I used to do this by snail mail.

I have gotten back into playing recently against "Chess Titans" on my laptop. I have worked myself up to level 3 and can usually either win or draw enough to make it interesting to me. Recently tried against the top level and could not believe how quickly it had me trapped every which way but loose!

Fun to do.

OP: Can You Also Create a 3D Application for Windows 8.1?

Windows 7 and below have it ....but Windows 8.1 abandoned the game....it may be an opportunity.

Also, RUich- does you use "redo"...I do for "teachable moments".

I play chess.com daily. I do the "blitz" 10 minute games. I love it. They have an android app too.

Re: Who plays CHESS???

MO,
Hell yes to the "redo" button!

I have gotten better at locating those pieces hiding amongst the "forest" of pawns, etc. that seemed to come out of nowhere to take my piece. But...I still go back to it when I still screw up to learn the game better.

How about the computer determining that the game is a draw way too soon? When I get the upper hand, I like to get my pawns into the other side and promote them to queens. I have found that unless I pretty much keep the King in check, it seems to ignore that I am systematically eliminating pieces from it and building my army of queens.
