OT: WOW… Pete Rose has died at the age of 83

Rose belongs in the HOF because of his talent
If OJ can be in the NFL's HOF , Rose needs to be treated the same as Simpson
As for the pardon , maybe Pete having sex with a 16 year old when he was32 put him in grab en by the pussy's good graces.
>In 2017, court documents showed that Rose had filed a defamation suit against John Dowd, MLB's attorney who had alleged that Rose had committed statutory rape. Among the ensuing documents was a sworn statement from a woman who said she and Rose had had sex before she turned 16 in the 1970s, both in Cincinnati and beyond Ohio's borders. Rose eventually admitted that he and the girl had sex, but only after she turned 16, he said. The suit was settled and dismissed later that year, but not before Rose lost his Fox Sports commentator gig and his induction into the Phillies' Wall of Fame was cancelled.<
Trump seems to go out of his way to make perverts feel wanted,
just recently he might have had a hand in getting sexual predators out of Romania and back in the USA
> One of Trump's top envoys is said to have raised the case with Romania's Foreign Minister Emil Hurezeanu at a security conference in Munich earlier this month.
Andrew Tate rose to fame after appearing on the UK reality show Big Brother, and later making a series of extreme and controversial statements about women and politics on social media.
The pair ran a webcam business and were charged with human trafficking and rape along with two Romanian female suspects in June 2023.
They also face separate, unrelated allegations of rape and human trafficking in the UK, and civil suits in the US and UK.

The Commissioner of Baseball needs to pardon Rose for the offenses against MLB .
America's #1 Felon can pardon Pete for the crimes he committed.

Did you buy Jake Tappers book yet?

How idiotic and pointless. I don’t think he was convicted of Federal crimes. So is the idiot just generally excusing Pete Rose in behalf of America?
and the millions of morons wasting air and space will rejoice at this fantastic and impactful achievement.

The Baseball HOF has been losing money.
With a presidential pardon I would not be shocked if baseball admins see an excuse to act and get some fans to the HOF.

As an aside, Rose used to say his autographed stuff was worth more because he was locked out of the hall

On May 24th my family and I are going up to Bethel Woods to see The Dave Matthews Band. After the concert we are heading north to the Hall of Fame. It will be my son's 1st time there as well as mine. My wife was there with her family as a kid.

The MLB doesn't give a rats ass if the museum loses money. They don't own it. The HOF is a nonprofit private company. The stupidity on here is mind scratching.

I read about the band's gig upstate and sounds like a good gig.
Be careful driving through the boonies upstate - a few miles over the limit can get you ticketed.

My attitude is that if you can't talk about a specific era of baseball without mentioning the positive contributions of a particular player ... then that player belongs in the Hall of Fame. Pete Rose is obvious. The steroid players are obvious. You can't pretend a person doesn't exist or that they didn't accomplish things on the field.

It's also why Don Mattingly is a no-brainer.

The Hall of Fame used to mean something. Now the vote is controlled by a bunch of sanctimonious, self important pricks with meaningless careers writing sports blogs. It’s why you get a piece of shit like Bud Selig in the HOF, yet the same people he profited from and who saved the sport are shunned. Harold Baines is a HOF’er but Barry Bonds isn’t? Yeah ok, won’t be visiting there again ever.

True, but they both want increasing popularity of the game. Charlie Hustle doesn’t matter to that anymore, and hasn’t since he retired.

They do a really good job with the exhibits but there’s not too much else around the area. The town itself was nice with some good places to eat. Wineries and Omegang Brewery nearby. Lake Placid close too.

Still so confused, how does Trump pardoning him from sleeping with a 16 y/o and tax evasion get him into the HOF?
Or is he saying that he is just going to force the HOF to put him in.
Is he also pointing in the guys from the Whitesox?

In an age where gambling is absolutely everywhere, can we finally get over the idea that his gambling made him a "bad person"?

Wait.. is that 14-year-old sex thing true? That is a bad person.
I was at the Phillies game a few years ago where they brought him back on the field with the world series team for the first time since he was on the team, and the 14 year old news came out that morning. He was questioned on the accusation by a female news reporter that morning before the game, responding “it was 55 years ago, babe”.

Word spread quickly around the stadium and people were PISSED, on top of already hating him. People threw beer cans at the field in my section, it was wild.

I guess from the perspective of sports writers once “meaning” something. Now their so called career is handled by social media kids, AI and bloggers.

I grew up in the 80s. Used to think sports writers actually watched the games and knew more than me as just a fan.

Nowadays absolutely not.

"Commissioner Rob Manfred is considering a petition filed by Pete Rose's family filed on Jan. 8 to have Major League Baseball's all-time hit leader posthumously removed from baseball's ineligible list, multiple sources with knowledge of the situation told ESPN Saturday.

Jeffrey Lenkov, a Los Angeles lawyer who represented Rose prior to his death at age 83 in late September, said he filed the reinstatement petition after he and Fawn Rose, the oldest daughter of Pete Rose, met with Manfred and MLB spokesman Pat Courtney in the commissioner's office on Dec. 17.

"The commissioner was respectful, gracious, and actively participated in productive discussions regarding removing Rose from the ineligible list,"

I didn’t realize we had this many passionate baseball fans outside of the Mets and Yankees threads until now. Posters who generally don’t talk baseball at all. What sparked this passion? Spring training?

It might be that we almost universally hate sports writers and it is the sports writers who are responsible for the large majority of nonsense that goes on with the various Halls of Fame. I also personally hate Bud Selig (because he more than anyone has done the most to harm the sport of baseball) and they stuck him in the Hall of Fame because it's a buddy-system, not merit-based.

A lot of hate thrown around in this post. I never understood why people get worked up over HOF stuff.

Well said and expressed.
Couldn’t have said it better.

Really ? Do you live in some fantasy land about baseball or the lowlife sports writers who get appointed to this responsibility and don’t even watch the games ? Ok Peter Pan.
I follow more than you know. Just don’t give two shits about HOF stuff. Find it funny that all of our trumpster fires on this board suddenly found passionate opinions about baseball.

And here we go again. You know, some presidents don’t file at all or evade them altogether. Can we lock this already or move it? You’re not Your - in the spirit of being helpful.

Who didn't file at all? And after you said "and here we go again". But I guess if you named one who held office before 1916 you would be right.

His time in the booth that game was awful. Embarrassing.

When I went to Cooperstown and visited the Hall of Fame, there was an employee on their staff who I knew from the staff of the Alexander LIbary at Rutgers. Nice surprise that he went from Rutgers to the Baseball Hall of Fame.

By the way, if anybody does go, you can cover the entire Hall provided you start in the morning.

Weird political angle post in a baseball and sportswriter conversation Peter. But it’s good to express yourself. I appreciate your opinion friend.
