Is it better for him to be on a practice squad or play in Canada?
I guess it depends on the CFL salary, and on how badly a player wants to play or stay in the NFL, among other things... For the 2022 season, NFL practice squad players with 2 or less seasons of NFL experience like Bo Melton are paid $11,500 a week (those with more than 2 seasons of NFL experience are paid more). They practice with the team so get NFL caliber training experience against NFL starters, and 2 practice squad players can be made eligible each week to play in the NFL game. So it seems that staying on the 16 man NFL practice squad may have its benefits. Is it better for him to be on a practice squad or play in Canada?
Over $500K /year to practice and a chance to make an NFL squad is a no-brainer, IMO.I guess it depends on the CFL salary, and on how badly a player wants to play or stay in the NFL, among other things... Here's a good article explaining practice squad rules for 2022.

So just under $200k. How much is a CFL median salary? I see the minimum is CND65k. That’s just miserable. Probably around 45k USIt's $11,500/week for 17 weeks.
See Janarion Grant. Having a fabulous CFL career, but probably will never come back to NFL.Practice squad is significantly better than CFL, and that goes well beyond the salary comparison. Practice squad puts you within minutes of getting activated. How many CFL guys are brought in after the season begins?
Easy answer- practice squad- you are getting a decent check. Wow- just checked- you will get between 200-360k just for PS. Back in the early teens, it was 90k but…you are there with the NFL players and coaches. I don’t think most even make close to that in the CFL.Is it better for him to be on a practice squad or play in Canada?
Pacheco and Melton went from our QB situations the years they were here, to Aaron Rodgers and Patrick Mahomes. Little bit of a difference lmao, happy for em.NICE!!!!
Could do a lot worse than having A-A-Ron throwing you passes. Hopefully Bo can forge a quick connection with him. #GOPACKGO
Yeah that is a bit of a change, going from marginal D1 QBs to two of the best in the world to do it.Pacheco and Melton went from our QB situations the years they were here, to Aaron Rodgers and Patrick Mahomes. Little bit of a difference lmao, happy for em.
back in 2018 Jamal Westerman was one of the higher paid players in the CFL at about $385k. A couple years ago the highest paid player, the QB for the BC Lions, made $750k.So just under $200k. How much is a CFL median salary? I see the minimum is CND65k. That’s just miserable. Probably around 45k US
With 2 weeks left if my math is correct, Bo's prorated salary should be $78,300 for the 2 weeks remaining based on the league minimum. I have no idea what happens if the Pack make the playoffs and he's on the active roster.Easy answer- practice squad- you are getting a decent check. The NFL pays for 43 weeks? 43 X $11500 =$494,500Over $500K /year to practice and a chance to make an NFL squad is a no-brainer, IMO.
I think they only pay for the weeks during the season you're on the PS. 18 x 11,500 = $207,000The NFL pays for 43 weeks? 43 X $11500 =$494,500
It's also way ahead of what most people max out in their work life! It's $11,500/week for 17 weeks. Still way ahead of most recent graduates

he would be paid each of the 17 game weeks he was on PS- which looks to be 15 weeks so, he would have made 12,176 per week on PS so far- for the remaining 2 weeks, on active roster, he will get 41,4701 per week. so, he will end up around 270k in salary plus his 105 bonus this year.I think they only pay for the weeks during the season you're on the PS. 18 x 11,500 = $207,000
What we were advised upon our son going into the NFL is that you have to look at your career in sports as reverse the norm. You will start your career at your max earnings and end it at much less and the much less will a lot more years than the max you started with- SO be F-ing smart! It's also way ahead of what most people max out in their work life!
Great advice - Unfortunately it seems a lot aren't smart and don't listen - it's like giving a 5 year old keys to the candy store.....hope your son is managing/managed his money well! The basics of money management is very simple (very much like dieting) - actually doing it on a day in, day out basis a whole other story. What we were advised upon our son going into the NFL is that you have to look at your career in sports as reverse the norm. only smart until a woman gets involved lol but really, best thing our son did was take advantage of the education he earned while at Rutgers rather than just rely on football. He has been very successful in life outside of football since retiring.Great advice - Unfortunately it seems a lot aren't smart and don't listen - it's like giving a 5 year old keys to the candy store.....hope your son is managing/managed his money well! I'm on several financial forums, and the #1 thing by far that people say is responsible for their ability to build wealth over the years is marrying someone with a similar money management mindset.only smart until a woman gets involved lol but really, best thing our son did was take advantage of the education he earned while at Rutgers rather than just rely on football. I thought you were going to marrying someone with a big trust fund.I'm on several financial forums, and the #1 thing by far that people say is responsible for their ability to build wealth over the years is marrying someone with a similar money management mindset.
